hi everyone,

well i am hoping to have the surgery in the next 6 week or so, but i did run into a problem and was wondering if anyone else has had this.

when going for all my testing they found out i have copd (breathing problems).

i have to go for 1 more breathing test and if ok...........i can have surgery.

all other testing came back fine.

anyone else with this problem and did you get surgery?

one more thing i am 61 so on the edge of being older, never had a weight issue until about 6 years ago.

anyone else in this age group and how did it go?

thanks everyone!

I know losing weight can only help your COPD, but I don't know about the surgery. I suppose that will depend on many factors like your surgeon and his skill, your anesthesiologist, how advanced your COPD is, etc. Good luck; I hope it all works out for you the way you want it to!

There are older bandsters (I'm 54) and I think there is a specific forum; you can check under the forums tab is you'd like to find them!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
