Hair Loss

Recommended Posts

Does everyone experience Hair loss after being banded? I am only 3 weeks out of surgery & not really seeing it, yet, but would like to know what to expect. I do try to get alot of Protein every day to try to avoid it, but would like to know what may be coming.

I never had any trouble with hairloss. I tend to shed a little in the fall, and maybe I shed just a little extra (banded in July of last year, so the timing would have been right), but I didn't really notice if that was the case.

I was horribly afraid of this, because a few years ago I started losing my hair like mad, and went to the doc and she said it was stress. It's just finally really getting back to where it was, and I swear if I'd lost much more than I did last time I wouldn't have had any left!

I do the hair loss thing. I lost hair for a good little while after surgery. Just when I thought I wouldn't lose any, it started falling out. Then when my eating improved it stopped. I started losing more than normal again after my first fill. So for me I guess it's diet/food/calories/protien/whatever related. My fingernails are also peeling which I'm sure is related to the Hair loss issues.

I don't notice the hairloss, I just get LOTS more coming loose in the shower and in my hairbrushes. I lose enough hair that I stick it to the shower wall and collect it there until the end of my shower, then throw the small wad of hair in the trash. All that can really clog a drain! It's gross but it did improve post-surgery so I'm sure it will improve again.

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure the Hair loss is related to 2 things. Anesthesia (sp?) and lack of Protein. I've seen hair loss before on a friend who rapidly lost weight and did not eat properly. Also, I think hair loss after surgery is due to the anesthesia.

Mine has thinned a little, but my expert hairdresser says it will come back when I start getting all my protein in. She also recommended Nioxin#1 Shampoo for fine hair and Nioxin Scalp Therapy for fine hair has a conditioner. Then once a week do a protein treatment - Redkins C.A.T. followed by the Nioxin Scalp Therapy. I haven't personally tried this yet - but I will and let y'all know the results.

DIxie, Nioxin works well if you use it per instuctions. I suffered hairloss due to alot of medications for my Lupus but a friend bought me the entire Nioxin set and I used it for a month and noticed a difference, not a huge difference but I grew hair and I wasn't losing any more of it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
