I hope someone can answer my question. I had surgery on Feb 5th so I am only 2 days post op. I had a very bad day yesterday with terrible dry heaving all day. I called my surgeon and he called in some anti nausea medication and I haven't had it today. However today whenever I eat I get really bad pressure right under my breast bone. I keep thinking that is because I am eating too fast but I don't know how to eat more slowly. He also told me I could eat applesauce so really all I am eating is that and Protein supplements and everytime I eat I am getting that. Any idea what I can do to stop it? It is really uncomfortable. I am sure that it is something I am doing but I don't know what. Thanks

Julie

I'm sorry I can't help you....my surgeon puts his patients on nothing but Clear Liquids post op for the first week....mostly just Water actually. Can you try that for, say, 12 hours or so? Does water hurt or is it only the Protein and applesauce?

My husband just talked to the surgeon. He said that I am supposed to be on clear liquids only. I was told that I could take a crushed up pill "with a little applesauce" and I took that as I could have applesauce. My mistake  I started dry heaving again and he said that if that doesn't stop I have to go to the ER and get fluids  I really don't want to do that but I guess we will see.

Not only will you need fluids but this early in the game, you may dislodge your band. I hope you are ok!

I hope it subsides for you and you can continue healing. Let us know how it goes with just Water. You're in my thoughts.

I had a pretty good night. I slept about 11 hours. I asked the surgeon about dry heaving and moving the band and he said that it was not a problem. He said that the main concern right now is getting dehydrated. I am just drinking Water and eating broth. I guess that is all I can have. I am going to call the surgeon again on Monday and get it completely straight what is "clear" and what is "full" because I got different information from the nutritionist. I don't want that to happen again so I really want to do the right thing. I guess I know now what happens when you don't follow the instructions. Maybe it is good that I learned that early in the game... I will keep you informed. I am hoping that I am over the hump now. Julie

Hi Jax Julie- glad you slept and are feeling better. I had a bad time with nausea too this week (banded on Feb 3rd) but after 2 night stay in hospital I have been ok. Diahrea too- Dr. said to expect it as with the IV fluids and the liquid for the upper GI series, it causes that. Nutritionist too has me on clear liquids until tomorrow; most important thing right now is hydration. I have been drinking gatorade with no problems; try sipping that so you can get electrolytes in. Also, herbal tea has been a lifesaver! You will be ok...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
