Newbie in New Jersey

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I just found this board today, I have been posting on the OH board. I am to be banded on the 22nd of May. and have finished all my hoop jumping for insurance, I have to finish up my nutrition visits ,once a month in April. Wondered if anyone else was due to be banded around that time. I live on Long Beach Island in New Jersey and am having my surgery at Southern Ocean County Hospital or SOCH, as we call it. I have four grown children and two grandsons and another on the way in May. My husband and a few close friends are the only ones I have told, because I don;t think my children would be supportive. I have lost this weight so many times before but it comes back with friends!! I think they would think I was taking the easy way out, But you and I know that is NOT the case. We need this tool to help on this journey to health and happiness. Just wanted to say hi and I will be reading all the posts from you who have been newly banded as I am like a sponge right now reading everything I can get my hands on.:cursing:

Welcome to LapBandTalk!

I post on OH too because I ended up not getting a band and I need to check in with my sleeve "peeps" but I love it here so much that I won't go away. :cursing: I hope you enjoy LBT too. Definitely the software is easier to navigate!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
