Anyone else have pain on right side?

Recommended Posts

I am 6 months + 4 days from my surgery day and I am very happy with my weight loss. I haven't really had any problems (knock on wood) and I haven't had a regret one since doing it. However, in the last couple of weeks I have experienced some severe pain on my right side about an inch above my right hip bone and about an inch to the left. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Has anyone had similar experiences? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had pain like yours and it ended up being gallstones. Gallstones are very common when people lose weight quickly.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, I agree, you should probably go to your doctor. It sounds like gallstones.

Ask your primary doctor.

I've had a couple people ask me privately if it could be my port and the answer is NO. My port is about four inches below my right breast, so it can't be that.

Gallstones huh? Also the pain isn't constant, it comes and goes. Do you have to have your gallbladder removed? Yuck, another surgery and then more time recovering and not exercising.

I know pain can radiate, but when I had gallstones, my pain was just at the bottom of my rib cage right of center. I had to have my gall bladder removed. The pain had started out kind of gradually, and I thought it was bad ingestion for a few months. Then I had an excruciating attack, and that's when I saw my doctor and was diagnosed with gallstones.

Honestly it may or may not be your gallbladder. Losing a lot of weight can cause problems in some, but the pain you're describing seems to me to be too low for your gallbladder. I'm not a doctor though; so it's safest to call tomorrow and ask. AND I'd call my primary physician, not the banding doctor. It could be something as mild as trapped gas, it could be nothing. Best to let your doctor make that call!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
