I am new, and just contemplating The Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie, and just contemplating the LapBand surgery. I have a 37.8 BMI, with multiple comorbidities. I have lost weight many times before. Weight Watchers was my biggest success. I lost 89 pounds, only to gain that back, and then some. I have tried everything to no success. :cheers2:

I have my informational seminar with Dr. O'Malley at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY on March 26. Does anyone know if a seizure disorder excludes me from being a candidate for this surgery? (Have not had a seizure in five years)

I would appreciate any of your help during this process.:bananalama:

I don't know about the seizure disorder but if it helps, from the seminar I went to, my surgeon's biggest issue was people with autoimmune disorders, so if I remember correctly, that won't pertain to you!

I too have done WW....I've lost 40 pounds about 10 times! LOL Always gained it back plus plus until I topped out at 405 and realized I had to have more in my arsenal than what any current "diet" offered.

So welcome and good luck!

I am so happy that my seizure disorder does not exclude me from having the surgery. I was so worried that it would. :bananalama:

I too have a seizure disorder - with a remote history of seizures in my teens, although I still take medication daily. It was a nonissue and I can't imagine it keeping you from surgery either. What your doctor WILL note is that you have a medical condition and stay on top of it! Best of luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
