Hello all! My name is Shelli I live in Northern, KY. I am a married mom of 2 amazing kids. I have been thinking about being banded for years and got a little push when I went to the dr in Dec and realized I had gained 18 lbs in a year even after a lo-cal diet and excercise. I went for my initial consult on Dec 30th, psych eval Jan 26th, surgeon again for physical Feb 3rd and I go to the nutritonist today. On Feb 17th I take my support person (hubby) to the surgeon with me; that evening we are going to a seminar and support group meeting. I have BC/BS IL; hoping they accept the lo-cal diet I started last year (they require a 6 month lo-cal diet). If so, and assuming I am approved, I could be looking at surgery before Easter, if not I am looking at August.

I have been poking around this website for a month or 2 now......I really appreciate everyone's openness and willingness to answer questions!!

Congrats on your decision. I had BCBS/FL and they requiered the same thing. The paid for all the little office visits, i just pad copays. As soon as the girl at the Dr office filed everything with the insurance, we had the authorization the same day, and they also mailed that in writing to me. They scheduled my pre-op visit and surgery all completed within 3 weeks, from that day. Seemed so slow waiting for that 6 months Dietician and dr stuff and then bang, all set ready for surgery. 2 weeks high Protein diet prior to surgery to shrink the liver, lost 6 lbs that week. We were on our way to band land. I am now 13 months out and down to a size 6/8, 10 lbs from goal. love my band.:bananalama: You have found a great website to get a variety of answers for everything you want to know.!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
