I had my gallbladder out but not during lap band surgery. When I had it done it was 3 small incisions in the tummy and one in the belly button where they pulled the gallbladder out.

I have never heard of them taking out the gallstones, but rather taking the whole gallbladder???

I had my gallbladder reomved 10-years before I was banded. They did three small incisions on my tummy.

I have read on this forum that doctors do both procedures at the same time. I have also read other threads where doctors perform the procedures at different times.

A friend of mine had her gallbladder out during gastric bypass surgery. There was a chance her gallstones would have affected her after she lost all the weight. They might take it out if they see a future problem?

I'm in the process of getting all my tests done and I have been diagnosed with both gall stones and kidney stones. I don't know yet if my gall bladder will be taken out before or during the lap band operation. Meeting with the doctor on Monday. Some say that the gall bladder should be taken out before as it is not sterile. I guess it depends on the doctor.....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
