Hello everyone. First time poster here.

I'm not convinced the band is the right tool for me which is why I am here. I will be doing alot of reading and decision making but I have to do something about my weight. I feel awful and look awful and I know it's killing me. Just not sure if the band is right for me.

Just thought I'd say hi instead of lurking and lurking :cursing:

Hey there, Breeze!

Congrats on considering this weightloss option to get healthy! This is a great website and you can learn a whole lot from very experienced banders! I have yet to have my surgery date (early March), but I have learned so much from this bored! I do recomend going to a local free seminar to learn more about how the procedure is performed and what you need to do to make it work for you. If I have learned anything, it is knowledge is power when it comes to being sucessful with this great tool!:cursing:

I can only speak from my own expieriences but i always said oh I can diet and lose the weight.....i'm not fat....then the lbs kept creeping up and up. I went to a weightloss seminar just out of boredom and I am glad I did. I chose the band because I needed help. This isnt some magic tool that melts the fat away. I am 8 weeks post surgery and down 44 lbs. You have to work WITH the band, have healthy food choices and follow the plan. I sure hope you chose the band because doing it alone failed for me time and time again. I am down to 259 and I havent been that low since college 10 years ago. I turn 32 this year and I am healthier and can run around with my 3 kids without getting tired or winded. This has given me my life back. I am on pace to be at my goal by July just in time for a family reunion in Disneyworld and I can not wait to get there. I wish you the best of luck and hope you make the best decision for you!

Thanks for your responses. I've been doing alot of researching, etc. My biggest hesitation about any WL surgery is that I'm not sure I can follow the post-op guidelines or lifestyle. I eat from negative emotion and stress and have a tough time controlling it. I don't want to spend money on surgery only to fail (once again) because I have no willpower.

Thanks again for your responses :)

my advice is try and find a facility that has a good support group. Mine has a psychologist and nutritionist that i meet with every month. You will find that once you get the band your hunger is suppressed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
