My name is Patty W. I had lap band surgery on January 21, 2009 and a friend told me of your site. I so much want to be able to use this tool to end the curse of being fat. I have been obease since childhood and have missed so much in life because of it. Finally, I choose to do something major once and for all before I die. I am 65 years of age and so want to be healthy and look stylish. I need all the help I can get.

How has your recovery been?

Sorry to be nosey, but my mom will be 65 this year. She is very close to having the gastric by-pass done. And I just worry about recovery.

And welcome to LBT!

Hey Patty! Don't forget to join the January '09 Group (Look under the Forum for the Groups, Year, month) as you'll find others in the same stage you are now so they'll know what you're going through. Welcome to LBT! There might be a 60+ group also.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
