I just had surgery Friday 1/30 and, while I feel great, am still having reflux issues. A representative from the hospital called to check Sunday and I said I can't keep anything down. She asked if I was getting my 61 grams of Protein. I repeated that I can't keep even Water down. I am not dehydrated, so I know I am getting some fluids, but at what point do I get worried?

I totally agree with LessJess's advice. You're four (five if you count your surgery day) out, and if you are still choking up Water, you need to talk to your doctor. The Realize Band is put in empty, but if you got the Lap Band, it's usually put in with some Fluid. If that's the case, maybe they could pull some out. I read one person say they were having problems after surgery, and the doctor even pulled the air out.

You should speak to your doctor, but the Lap Band ISNT put in with Fluid. Mine wasnt and everyone I know hasnt had Fluid in ther band when it was put in. That would be unusual. Maybe you have alot of swelling that is causing this or maybe the Realize band has fluid when inserted. In that case, you can have the saline drained. But dont panic. Its a simple procedure, just as if you get a fill.

One of the nurses that works with the hospital where I had my surgery said that she's seen some cases of the realize band still having Fluid in them from when the Dr. tested it to make sure it was a good band. People come back in and the Dr.'s take the fluid out and they're totally fine. Definitely contact the Dr.

If you are concerned you should definitely call your surgeon. I had no complications. However, we heal and cope with stress differently. The immediate impact of the surgery is swelling. The degree of swelling can differ significantly from person to person.

Also good things take time. At this point the concern should be dehydration. If your inability to keep clear fluids down persist for more than a couple of days call your Doctor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
