just thought I'd make myself known

Recommended Posts

Hi I just thought I'd make myself known. I haven't had any surgery yet, I have my 1st meeting/briefing (or whatever you call it) on Thursday. My husband is in the Air Force so I know I read some where about a new rule or something.

I hope I qualify because nothing else is working for me. I have multiple illnesses due to my weight. I meet the standard BMI qualification. I'm just so sick of being sick. Plus it would be nice to look better and feel better about myself. Heck it be nice to buy clothes in a regular store. I haven't done that since I had my 2nd child. I didn't grow up overweight. I got that way after having kids and going through depression after the loss of my parents. So I know there is a difference in how people treat you when you are average weight as opposed to being over weight. It's disgusting!

Anyway Hi and thanks for being here and having me.

Hi Jade,

Welcome. I haven't been banned yet, just got a surgery date yesterday, March 9th. My husband is retired MC and we use TriCare Standard. The process for this has been simple because of it, and yes the guidelines changed last year. I think it is a little more involved if you are going to have service on base, there I think they require a 6 month supervised weight managemnt class first. Start getting together as much info on your weight history as possible, any diets you've tried and the results. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Be ready for life changes, give up stuff early. My weakness is sweet tea, I drank it by the gallon, I switched to a Crystal Lite type drink and dropped about 4lbs., use the treadmill or walk some (I know it's cold, I'm in VA). Just moving around the house more helps. I try to get up a couple of times an hour and tour the house. I've lost 10 lbs. since Nov. and that's with the holidays and not dieting but using some Slim Fast and small portions when I eat. Get the mind set and work your plans, good luck and again WELCOME.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
