Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor i need help

Recommended Posts

wow, that title is rare for me... i don't ask for help very often so i hope someone will answer this... :cursing:

age: 27

gender: female

marital status: single

occupation: grad student

geographical location: philippines

amount of weight lost: 6 lbs

amount of weight to lose: 164 lbs

i'm a failure... i got banded in november of 2007 and as you can see i've only lost 6 lbs. i'm usually not this much of a downer except that i feel like i should finally own up to it. i don't know if i've hit rock bottom and for some reason i keep believing that i need to so i can finally go back up.

i got banded because i needed to lose weight. but old habits die hard and drastic restrictions and a bad erosion made me wary of coming back for fills. but this year i have seen so much improvement in my sister (she and i got banded at the same time) that it feels like a crime not to do anything about it. so after four months since my last unfill, i decided to go at it again.

today i had 2 cc put in. i'm going to try my best to stick to the proper diet so i can be successful this time. i hope someone can help me get through this.

Hey, don't be too hard on yourself, there are many out there that are having a hard time. I know old habits die hard, thats why it's so very important to keep getting your fills! Those were the key for me! The first few months of my surgery I lost VERY slow. But in January I got my 5th fill, and finally restriction! Since then it's coming off so much faster. And when you see the scale move, it MAKES you want to do better.

And I know no one likes to work out, but it does help! And I actually feel so much better about myself when I do, it's a total ego boost!! And since your sister has the band too, she sounds like a good work out partner! Even if you can get out and walk a couple times a week, thats better than nothing. I HATE going to the gym, but I try to make myself go at least once a week, and hopefully I'll build up to more. But the past couple of months I've been taking my dog on long walks too, and I really feel so much better about myself when I do. Even if the scale doesn't move.

Get refocused, get moving, get some good restriction going, and find some food you enjoy thats not going to undo all your hard work! Hang in there! And if you have any questions feel free to ask

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
