6 days post op and I am having upper back pain. I do not believe it is from gas. I don't know if it is because I have bad posture or what?

What makes you believe that it is not from the gas? If it is mainly on the upper left side that is likely what it is. Or perhaps it is from the way you were laying during surgery?

I am 12 days out and the most discomfort that I had was a feeling of being hit by a bat across my upper back. It was right at and above my bra line. It gets better, but it is still there. It didn't feel like the gas that sometimes was in my shoulder, but it could have been. Just know that it gets better.

I have had some back problems as well. I think it is because for last week I have had a really hard time standing up straight and I have not been wearing a bra. Also, I am a side sleeper and have been sleeping on my back for the past week and I always ache when I wake up. As soon as I start moving around and stretching my muscles I feel better. I started sleeping on my side and that also helps.

Clifford,

Unfortunately GasX will not help this kind of gas. It is great for the intestinal gas but not this. What is causing it is the air that was pumped into your abdominal cavity during surgery, not all of it has escaped and it has traveled up into your upper back. Eventually your body will absorb the gas and express it through your lungs. Pain meds help a little but increasing your activity and moving around as much as possible is the best way to get the gas absorbed the fastest. Dop't overdo it but try to get your heart rate up just a little by walking and moving around as much as your body can tolerate.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
