lablover 0 Posted February 3, 2009 I was banded the 22nd and am also having really bad breath. I have a follow up on the 5th, so I am going to ask, but would love some info from banders that have been out al while also!
MistyD65 1 Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) You are most probably in ketosis. Since you are not taking in any carbohydrates, your body is using fat for energy rather than carbs. Bad breath is one of the side effects of ketosis. Once you start adding carbs back into your diet this should go away. It's a small, short-term price to pay as you begin your journey to better health! I think most of us experience it - I know I did. jfrost6 0 Posted February 3, 2009 Misty is correct. Ketosis will cause you to have bad breath. What happens is when your body burn your fat stores for energy it also burns a chemical that is in the fat cells which causes bad breath. If you add some carb back in it will be either gone or very mild. Make sure to not add too many carbs as your weight loss with suffer as a consquence. What I do is carry a pack of sugar-free gum with me or breath strips. Mouth wash also helps if you use it twice daily. Happy losing!!
debbie_7155 0 Posted February 3, 2009 thanks jfrost..i have another 2 weeks on liquids..yuk..i will get a diff mouth wash as mine isnt minty enough..i darent chew gum for the fear of swallowing it accidentally & getting it stuck..
jfrost6 0 Posted February 3, 2009 Gum wont get stuck. It has to be a large piece for that to happen. I buy "5" spearmint flavor and they are fairly small pieces so you wont have to worry about that.
bella1 0 Posted February 3, 2009 hi debbie, I was just wondering if you could give me a sample of what you eat in a day as I am 14 days out of surgery and have not lost a pound! I did have major complications during surgery which did'nt allow me to exercise until now but I should have lost something, I am amazed at how much you have lost
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted February 3, 2009 Once you have restriction gum can get stuck...if so they can remove it but you have to go in to a doc's office. Safest to just use sugar free breath mints!
