2 mos Post op 1 fill only 5 lbs loss

Recommended Posts

Hi experienced Banded people, I have a question as to what is the average amount of fills it takes to get that loss of appetite back as I had during the 2-3 weeks post op. It was great I was super consciencious of what I ate and how I ate it and I got that full signal quickly and regularly and was losing weight consistently but as per usual the 6 week mark is up and I am back to my old ways prior to getting this band.

I worked so hard with ins companies and doctors and eventually paying out of pocket with money I shouldn't have spent to only lose 5 lbs. I am 49 and lower BMI so have my challenges. Feeling discouraged and just want to bitch. thanks for listening.

Really difficult to answer, M.....because everybody is different. I know (personally know) several people that felt some restriction from day 1, and have not gotten any fills and are losing. I think they're the exception, but still...

My doc told me that it seems to take 3-4 fills for his patients to feel good restriction (but he is very conservative on fills). I've had 4 fills and am almost 1 year out.

So, when you say you're going back to your old ways pre-band what do you mean? Are you making bad food choices? Eating portions that are too large?

Do you go to a support group? They help. Do you exercise? Exercise is really the not-so-secret ingredient for weightloss with the band. It is vital.

So take a deep breath and re-group. You can totally do this. All is not lost. Start back on the right track now.

Thank you so much Plain...you've given me food for thought. Exercise...you are right I got banded on Dec. 1 and here in the Northeast we have maybe a handful of days where there wasn't snow/ice on the ground. I love to hike and take long walks in the woods but haven't all winter! Just went back to gym to re start Yoga classes. Got laid off / no I'm lying I quit my job a few months ago...ouch..and now can't find another which makes me feel guilty and regretful.

My Doc is also conservative on her fills Plain also. thanks for giving me a boost and a dose of reality!

Your a good person....take care, M

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
