How you told your Husband/Mom you were pregnant!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all and congrats to everyone who is pregnant or has already had their baby. I am looking forward to the day when I can join you. I'm hopping by May my husband and I can start trying (skipping June due to the fact my husband says no sex in June because then the baby would be born in March which would interupt March Madness .)

I would like to loose some more weight  to have a really healthy pregnancy but its so hard to "weight".

I have a question for you all....In what unique ways did you tell your husbands/mothers you were pregnant? Looking forward to this day very much and love hearing peoples stories.

I had all kinds of unique ways planned. Like with most things in life, few of them actually came to fruition.

How DH found out - I woke him early and told him I had taken a test and it was positive. At that point I didn't actually believe it was positive, so it was no big deal. Kind of like "It was positive, but I don't trust it so later today I will go buy another kind."

With the 'rents - had all kinds of cool ways planned. But when I found out I really was preggo, I was actually at their house, and my in-laws were there. They live in another country so the opportunity to tell both parents in person at the same time was kind of unheard of. So cutesy ideas went down the drain.

Hubby was supposed to tell his parents (in his native language) at the same time I told mine. But I started crying when I went to say it and lost my voice. My mom kept saying, "What? You're what? Are you ok? Why are you crying?" And my dork husband clammed up and just said, "Well we won't be going there this summer..." We had planned a trip to see them at the time I would be about 7 mos preggo. But he didn't explain why. So they saw me crying, my mom starting to panic, and they started to panic... asked him what was wrong, and he just smiled and made a motion like he was rocking a baby which they mistook to mean we were dancing... so it made no sense to them at all. Finally between reading my lips and straining to hear the little bit of voice I could get out, my mom understood I was pregnant and freaked out and started jumping up and down (in a happy way). Then the in-laws heard and freaked out too.

How I had planned to tell them... hadn't completely decided. With hubby I wanted to give him the test stick wrapped like a present, and give it to him in bed and say something like, "I wanted to give you this here, because this is where we made it." Instead my irreverance won out.

With the 'rents, I had planned to either take a picture of a hamburger bun in our oven and give it to them and wait for them to get the "bun in the oven" metaphor. Or wait and give them a sonogram picture, but I knew they'd kill me if I didn't tell them as soon as I knew.

I had always planned to do something cute, but when I actually saw it (and was not planning for pregnancy yet) I was so scared and shaken, all the cute stuff went out the window. I took the test at work (it hit me during lunch time that I was late and my band was really tight) so I ran to the drug store.

Anyway, I saw it was positive, began shaking and panicking.. told my friend first, so she could calm me down.. then I showed it to my mom who teared-up and screamed (in happiness).

I couldn't wait till I got home to tell my husband, and I couldn't find words.. so I texted him. Yes, all the cute ideas I had of 'baby food' etc.. I just texted him.

Oh well :tongue2:

I had grand plans also, but I was very late and all the tests I took kept coming back negative. I didn't actually get a positive until 6 weeks after my LMP and it was very, very faint. My husband was also waiting to find out as well, so when I took it and saw the faint shadow of a second line, I wasn't so much excited as confused. I asked him to take a look at it and he squinted and said maybe he could see another line.

Well, it was positively confirmed 2 more tests later that came back increasingly distinct. However, with the uncertainty and the closeness with my husband who was very "involved" in the whole process . . . cutesy ways to relay the information flew out the window.

I haven't gotten to do this yet, but I was banded in January and hope to start trying at the end of the year, so fingers crossed! However, my friend just found out she was preggers and asked me how to tell her parents. I suggested she take them out to eat and pre-arrange her dessert order with the waitress. When dessert time rolled around the waitress brought her out a dish of ice cream and another of pickles. Her mom started screaming and jumping up and down once she "got" it, then they all celebrated.

I love that!!! What a cute option.

I had a different dilemma with telling my 16 year old son. I wasn't sure how receptive he would be. I have asked him over the years in the past if he wanted a brother and sister . . . and "not really" was the reply. He was OK with being an only child.

So I took him out for lunch on a day he didn't have school. I started with "there is something I need to tell you about, but I am not sure how to say it" . . . he said, "oh, your pregnant" in about the same tone of voice as he would have joked "oh, your going to be abducted by aliens." I could tell he really didn't think that was it, he was just throwing something out there.

I said "uh . . . yeahhh" and his mouth dropped open, lol. He really was quite shocked. After 16 years when you are nearing adulthood and starting to think about college, you really don't think of your parents as capable of bearing children (and we certainly don't want to think about the birds and the bees), lol.

So after that, we discussed fears about the future, and lifestyle changes, and how his life would be affected. Later we got into would the baby look like him, and how soon would the baby be able to talk, and more of the interesting conversation.

For me, telling my almost adult child was the hardest part. I had to try the direct approach. If I would have tried a cutesy approach and surprise him with the news, I think it would not have been as effective as a heart-to-heart. He is happy and excited now, so it's all good.

That's funny Heather! I think I told you, one of our family friends.. he has a 21 year old (just graduated college) and they also have a 5 year old. So they did like you, except the 21 is girl and 5 year old is boy. But the stories I hear from them are hilarious. Since the 21 year old grew up single child, she's not use to having a 'sibling' to battle with. She just moved back from college since she graduated (like literally 2 weeks ago moved back) and she will get upset if they buy her little brother something (like a DVD) and didn't get her something. Like I said, the stories I hear are hilarious. The 5 year old adores the 21 year old though, he looks at her with stars in his eyes.

Anyway, I'll have to remember the ice cream & pickles. When we go for kid #2, I won't be such a basket case like I was when I found out for this one.. and can take the time to plan something cute!

Thanks for all the story's. I love hearing them. The pickles and Ice cream idea was really cute. I'm hoping that when the day comes I will be able to keep it from my husband until my plan unfolds (not sure what the plan is yet ). I know with my parents I will be able to wait because I live 5 hours from them so I think I can controle myself talking to them on the phone until I see them face to face (no plan there yet either) lol. Anyway thanks again for the stories. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
