Chromium Picolinate???

Recommended Posts

So I go in for a fill on Saturday and my Doc. is a little irritated at me. (not that I am not irritated at myself.) He said you only lost 1lb. I said no I lost 7lbs and gained 6lbs back... I told him like I told him before that I have had this unusual craving for sweets and BBQ chips.. His answer has always been "just don't eat them"... I explained to him its like needing a cig. (I guess never smoked) but this desire is bad.. Finally he says to try this Vitamin called Chromium Picolinate, He says that it helps curve the desire for chocolate or sweets in general. I never in my life have been a big chocolate fan.. I have been the skittles gal  but haven't had a desire for those since my surgery..

Has anyone used the vitamin? What are your thoughts about it?

Oh by the way left with a 0.08 fill but returned 2 hours later since I couldn't hold down Water he took back out 0.06. I have this horrible cold he said that the fill may not be enough once the cold is gone, but for now it has to be..:w00t:

I took it as part of my treatment for PCOS, it helps control blood sugar levels.

It may help with your cravings a bit but the best thing is to do as your doctor has already told you is to get this stuff out of your diet. Find low carb and sugar free alternatives to what you are craving and eventually those cravings will get better.

Every time you eat those processed carbs, your blood sugar will spike real quick then it will dip real quick leaving your body looking for another quick spike. The only way to get off the craving roller coaster is to stop eating those foods. It can be done, I have insulin resistance and it was extremely hard for me to get that stuff out of my system but I did it. I no longer need my meds and I rarely crave that stuff...it feels good to no longer have that stuff control me.

:huh2:Sure. Everyone has their cravings. Don't be distracted bye his food and ask your family to please don't bring it into the house. Chromium is just a short fix for sweets, but self control does do wonders.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
