I have a nerve or something at least 5 inches from any incision, that if I bend or move the wrong way, feels like someone is holding a candle flame to my stomach!!! OUCH! It's hard to pick things up off the floor or move the wrong way. I was gonna mention it to the doc at 2 weeks post op, but it seemed to be calming down, but now it's HOT again! Any similar stories or pain. I am three weeks post op.:w00t:

Is there an acutal fever (hot to the touch) or just nerve sensitivity?

Nerve sensitivity is normal. I had it bad between weeks 2 and 4. The internal sutures holding the port and tubing in place have been stitched to muscle and nerve in your abdominal wall and as it heals you can get a lot of sensitivity. Just the touch of light clothing was painful.

But if there is actual fever there and it is hot to the touch then call your surgeon that could mean that you've developed an infection.

The pain related to my port was just like that- it extended out inches from the port, toward the actual band, and had a real burning/tearing quality that was different from the incision pain. They dissect through the tissues to run the port tubing, and then tack things down, so it didn't surprise me. I just took meds (initially Vicodin, after that tylenol) and in a few weeks it was gone.

Thanks for the information, it is helpful to ask others. I will try over the counter stuff. I've been off the pain killers after day two. To much to do! No time to rest! But, I apprecaite your response.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
