19Aust 0 Posted February 1, 2009 Hi all, am new to the forums and as the title suggests i was banded only a few days ago on the 28th Jan. Since then i have been researching and speaking with many in regards to my immediate liquid diet. I am so confused as to what i should be eating and drinking at what times etc. I have stuck to Optifast, milk drinks, and pureed thin Soup. Is this ok? I am yet to vomit but experience alot of belching/burping...normal? Also is it possible to expand on just Soup or Optifast for my main meals or am i stuck...look forward to sharing my journey with you guys Many thanks
crzytchr 3 Posted February 1, 2009 My usual answer is follow the diet your surgeon gave you. You should've been given some guidelines on what they wanted you to eat. Normally you would be on Clear Liquids (New whey Protein bullets, broth, etc) for the first week, then move on to full liquids (regular Protein Drinks, cream soups) They didn't give you ANYTHING to guide you? 19Aust 0 Posted February 1, 2009 Nothing, that outlines a meal plan or anything like that, do you know where i would find something of the sort with some meaall ideas or anything like that?
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted February 1, 2009 Mine didn't give me a "meal plan"...he said "Clear liquids for the first week, then come back, we'll check you and you can proceed from there". No "meals". You need to call your surgeon's office on Monday and find out how you fell through the cracks. Per my surgeon no, you aren't doing the right thing, but others allow Protein during week one. I have NEVER heard of one, before now, that did not give some guidance. Here is a link to the "LAP BAND" website....(assuming you have it and not a realize band). I suggest you follow it, in lieu of direction from your doctor. If you go by what's posted here you'll honestly get lots of well-meaning but conflicting information because all our docs put their own spin on it. bigsarge 0 Posted February 1, 2009 I was banded a week ago and l have the same concerns you have. Your Dr. should have given you something to follow, please stay with that. Here's some info sent to me when I asked the same question on another site. look at these sites, for referance only. melody_mary_42f 0 Posted February 1, 2009 for the first 5 days it was recommended to me to be on straight liquids. broth, Jello, tea, coffee, Water, crystal light, all the water flavors. But to stay away from the milk laiden drinks until the gas pain had gone away. then creamed or blended Soups, ,can be added as well as all the original liquids, then at day 15 adding soft foods.....which is where I am now, and have lost 29 pounds in 17 days. Whew, makes me tired just remembering the liquids!
WyominGirl 1 Posted February 1, 2009 Ditto everyone elses response: ask your doc. However I've seen a lack of aftercare in some programs so here is a quick run down of my doc: Week 1: Clear Liquids Week 2: Full Liquids (cream Soups, liquids you can't see through) Week 3: Mushies (mashed potatoes, baby food, things run through a Magic Bullet) Week 4: Add soft Proteins (cottage cheese) start follwing bandster rules Week 5 & 6: add tuna & dark meat chx Week 7 & 8: Ground beef only after followup visit! Hope that helps ya some. All weeks were with Protein drinks to keep the Protein intake up at the 60-70g.
