What soup options do I have

Recommended Posts

That's a good question, and I am wondering the same thing. I had my surgery on the 26th and I have now been on a liquid diet for 3 weeks....I am so hungry, my stomach aches constantly and most of the time I can't even walk from room to room without almost falling over. Since the surgery I have been sipping broth, drinking carnation for Breakfast lunch and dinner with broth and crystal light in between. NOTHING is helping. I am at my wit's end!

I am going to try Tomato Soup put through a food processor and watered down. Probably won't help either but hey it's worth a shot.

I got the band on the 20th, and made cr of chicken with skim milk, didn't Water it down, just strained. I can only tolerate about 4 oz though, it really fills me up. I've also done cream of Tomato, and both taste heavenly.

I'm to the point now where I'm allowed soft meats like baked fish, and today I found some real shreaded crab meat. I plan to put that in some New England Clam Chowder + a splash of white wine (maybe a 1/8 cup) and probably make two meals out of it. Should be absolutely gormet compared to what I've been eating.

I was told I could have strained low-fat cream Soup. I did try it one day and apparently can't tolerate cream soup. I could however tolerate Tomato Soup and it was filling -and soothing. I used the "healthy" version as I try to watch the sodium, used the can of soup and about 1/3-3/4 can of Water.< /p>

Thanks for all of your advice. I just don't understand how Slim Fast low carb is allowed and cream Soups are not. The slim fast is pretty thick. Is anybody else doing the slim fast only a few days out?

I like egg flower Soup and oyster beef soup from the Chinese Restaurant down the road. Can soup and broth just got old. And I am not a cook, so making soup was just out of the question.

I didn't use slim fast/carnation. I just mixed 1% milk or soy milk with Protein Powder. Towards the end of your 3 weeks I figure it's natural to be hungry since the swelling has gone down and obviously you don't have any restriction yet. You'll have to just try things like cream Soups to see how you respond. I had no problem with butternut squash, but Tomato based soups give me reflux now, and I never had that problem pre-banding.

good luck

I am able to have cream Soups as long as I strain the Soup. I am only able to take in about 3 oz of soup, but it is very filling, and so comforting. I was banded Jan 27th this week and am on the full liquid stage.

I was instructed to make a milk mixture of skim milk and nonfat powdered milk that I use to mix with condensed soups. This gives me extra Protein which helps.

I also used skim milk in my cream of chicken Soup. It is really yummy if you add a little sage, garlic powder and pepper. It was so tasty my daughter took some to work with her for lunch!

My first week I was "clear liquids" .... no cream Soups AT ALL. Also many docs say no Tomato (because it's acid)...so check with your surgeon's guidelines. Once I was on full liquid I either strained the Soup or I blended it, since I was told "anything you can drink through a straw" is ok for Clear Liquids. I loved split pea soup blended in my food processor; it kept me alive.

Just make sure you follow your physician's guidelines; they are all different and many conflict; best to do what your doc approves for you.

Hang in there; it gets better!

What a GREAT idea - I'm going to add that to my cream of chicken tomorrow!

I also added skim milk tothe cream of chicken Soup, i found some lactose free milk. It seemed to help a bit. Also, My new fave is cream of potato ( strained). Yum, i got burned out of cream of chicken as I had it alot during my pre op diet.

I was just banded this past Wed, 1/28. My Dr. told me "anything that will flow through a straw." I put split pea through the food processor and it was yummy! Today I went and bought several different flavors to try. That's what made the difference for me, flavor. Cream of chicken is SO bland!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
