Am i just not getting it???

I was banded on October 22nd, and since then I have spent much time on this site finding answers to my questions, but until now, I have never had the guts to post a thread...

I have 6 ccs in a 10 cc band. My surgeon has been rather aggressive with me. I have only lost 19 lbs. since the surgery (including the pre-op diet.)

My question in this:

I PB .....ALOT!! Almost every meal, and I wonder, is that because I am not chewing enough or could it be that my stomach is just full?? (I never get the same full sensation that I use to pre band.) And can this be a reason for the slow weightloss?

It could be that you're not chewing enough, but my guess is you're overfilled. Go on a liquid diet for 24 hours and then drink some water... does it go down? If you have a hard time getting it down, you're definitly overfilled.

You need to contact your doctor, not ask the people on this website because it sounds like you're on the road ot being malnourished.

PB can occur because your not chewing your food well enough or because your eating to quickly and unable to tell when your stomach is full, or you might be to fight with the fill. You really need to talk to your doctor about this.

If you are not losing weight it could be from so many causes. If you are not doing so already, track your calories and measure your food. Increase your Protein intake so your full, avoid slider foods, and exercise. If you are aleardy exercising then increase your work outs.

I can drink fluids. A little slower than normal, but so long as I don't chug a bottle or a huge glass of something, I am usually ok....

I don't get the same full sensation as pre-band either. I was banded about a month before you and other than the weight I lost with the 2 weeks post-op diet I have not lost any weight. I am about 182 now. But I had already lost 60 pounds pre-band.

Hello:

I was banded 9/4/2007. Are you following the "rules"? Taking tiny bites and chewing until it is mush. Eating slowly? Eating the right foods? I've been to a lot of support group meetings and have several acquaintances that have the band and most of them aren't following these guidelines. I'm not saying that it is easy or that I haven't lost sight of them at times, but just seeing if this could be a reason. Also, I know once I PB my band gets irritated for at least a day. I go on a liquid diet for 1 to 1.5 days and then I usually get back on track. Good Luck!

If you PB after almost every meal, then your stomach is irritated. Go on liquids for a day. The next day, when you eat, consciously make sure you eat slowly and chew well. If you still PB, then you are probably too tight. Please contact your doctor and tell him/her what you have told us. That is the person who can help you.

If your band is too tight it will be almost impossible for you to continue to lose weight. It will lead to you either consuming not enough calories (cause your metabolism to slow down) or eating slider foods which are going to stop weight loss.

"Productive Burp" it means to bring food that is stuck back up. It is often accompanied by its buddy, "slime" (excess saliva). It is kind of like throwing up but not as nasty, since no stomach acid is involved.

Once I got my third fill and REAL restriction, I was PBing a lot too. I know that I was not taking small enough bites, not chewing enough, and not waiting long enough between bites. All things I should have practiced before I got restriction, but I didn't. Things are better now, although I still have times/days when my band is tight and foods that I just can't eat. If you are eating foods you should be, and eating them like you should be, and still having problems, I think you should call your surgeon. Good luck to you!!!! Becky

camrayne - Some things I was told not to eat/drink, but most of the time for me it has been trial and error. If I try and eat something that does not go down well (because of the tightness of my band), it comes back up (PBing) - even if I take tiny bites, chew lots, and take breaks between my bites. I have had trouble with white flour products - bread, Pasta, crackers, flour tortillas.... plain chicken and turkey. I can eat whole wheat products. My band is kinda moody too. Sometimes I have no problems with a food and the next day the same food can cause problems. I'm still learning... that's for sure. Becky

I'm 10 mo out & I'm still learning to eat. Too big of a bite, not chewing enough, taking that last bite when I know I've had enough....ALL lead to PBing & the Slimes.

When I signed up for this I was a gobbler...I don't think I really chewed anything so it's taking me a long time to learn how to eat.

Has anyone noticed that stress will tighten their band like a vise???? I hate it!

Glad to hear from you guys about this. I had my last fill about 2 weeks ago. I am able to drink liquids pretty well, but I seem to PB everyday. I drink smoothies and Protein Drinks most of the day, and by the evening, I want a meal. The meal with real food doesn't go down so well, but I am learning to listen to my band. I know when I eat too much or too fast - it will come right back up. If I take two bites, put the plate aside for a few minutes and then go back to it, I do much better. I gave up on eating off of regular size plates. I think too that mentally measuring my food to a 1 cup size helps determine portion size for me.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
