Dr. Stanish @ Methodist Hospital

Recommended Posts

Hi! my name is Nichole. I'm 21. I am currently seeing Dr. Stanich, but at Community Hospital in Munster. I was wonder who else on here has seen him? Had him do your surgery? Before you were approved for the surgery did he put you on the high protein-low carb diet, if so, how long? How long did you have to wait for approval of your surgery? Did he suggest you attend classes? Any info you can give me on him I'd greatly appreciate it!! I've only seen him once, so I'm still new to the game. To those who reply much thanks to you~!!!!!!!

Hi

I had Dr. Stanish at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN. He did my lapband and two hernia repairs on August 4, 2008. To date I have lost 120 pounds. I would still like to lose 40 more pounds. Yes, I was on a high Protein diet prior to sugery, and lost 40 pounds of that 120 pounds in the 4 months prior to surgery. Follow the advise they give you to eat low fat Protein and log everything you eat. I use sparkpeople.com to log my food and track the amount of protein intake daily. I have had a great experience with Dr. Stanish and his whole staff. It took me about 6 months to get my final approval. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, and best of luck. :welldoneclap:

:wub:Dr. Stanish is also my doctor at Methodist in Merrillville. I love him and his staff. He did my lapband 1-18-07, and my port replacement 7-6-09. I still see him once a month, weighted and measured every 2 months, and I have volumes of food/exercise logs.

He's really hot too!!!

I am going to the the seminar tomorrow so I hope they can help me get approved. Right now I have bcbs-hmo and the hoop you have to jump through are really designed to discourage you than to assist. I'm hoping Dr Stanish can give me a clear answer and guidance

Chris is great at working with the insurance companies, and all insurance companies make everyone jump through fire hoops. Once they realize how much money they will save by you have the surgery then they ok it. They save money by not having to pay for medications that you may take now, and other health issues you may have now.

I say that because the reason why I had band surgery was because I had thyroid problems, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and was starting to have to take insulin. I take NO medication now, not even my thyroid medication. I'm a Vitamin and exercise junkie....I found that I love running and I love me.

I hope all goes well tomorrow, and that everything works out for you. Life only gets better!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
