scrappy_friend 0 Posted July 10, 2009 Laura I know all about surgery being the only thing on your mind. It's like I was obsessed about it and I still think about all I have been through. I am now 3 weeks out and starting to feel good now. I have been busy almost all day the past 2 days and I am thankful for that. Sitting around was driving me nuts. I wish I had a housekeeper my hubby and 10 year old doesn't do a very good job.
scrappy_friend 0 Posted July 10, 2009 Laura, do you have to drink the gaggy Protein Drinks before and after surgery? My dr says the help with healing. I hate them so bad.
GREATFUL 24 Posted July 12, 2009 Scrappy - My PS has said nothing about drinking any Protein drinks. But, I know how important it is to keep your protien intake up for the proper healing. So, I have my Protein shakes and some shots on hand. Plan is to try to keep the grams up around 100 for the week after surgery. Heard that somewere here and it was a good point. FIVE DAYS and counting!!! Laura
GREATFUL 24 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) Four day and counting!! OMG, it is this week. I am having my TT this week. I am so very excited. Suprising, I am no longer nervous, I am very calm at this moment. That may change as the week goes on. I have to work Mon and Tues, Wed I have taken off to do the things that I feel need to be done before surgery on Thursday. I just don't thing I will be any good at work on Wed anyway. Going to do some cooking for my wonderful DH, who will be my nurse for 4 days. And plan to do all of the last minute gardening that will need to be done. (Planted a huge veg garden this year, what ever was I thinking) DH will have to take care of it for the next 2-3 weeks at least. I have lined out one of my very good friend to take me to the PS on Monday for my follow-up. I have another one who has offered to take me to the second follow-up. A few have offered to come by Sat and sit with me and watch chick flick if I feel like it, I told them "Sure, that will be great, but forgive me if I nape throught the movie" they both said "Heck we will nap with you, we can start the movie over". Now that is some good friends. I am so very blessed to have such a wonderful network of friends. Have some before pictures, will post them when I have some after pictures to go with them. Take care all, and thanks for all of your encouragement and support. Laura Edited July 13, 2009 by LauraP

Sue Magoo 71 Posted July 13, 2009 Laura: I'm so excited for you! I'll be thinking of you this week and wish you the best. Are you going to have one of those anesthetic pumps that puts the anesthetic over the abdominal wall when you push a button? I think that was the best thing. Mine only lasted for three days but it was great to give it a push before getting up. I hope your doc has one for you. Take care. Sue
GREATFUL 24 Posted July 13, 2009 Sue - Thank you for your thougts. YES I will have the wonderful pain pump. I am so very glad, I have heard good things about having the pain pump and how much it helps the first few days. What kind of pain med did each of you have? He has given me the liquid loratab. I was given that after my band surgery and found that it did not work all that great for me. Do you think if I call the PS office and tell them that that they would give me something diffrent, just in case? I just want to say on top of the pain, I am such a wimp. THREE DAYS and counting...... Laura
JosieK 120 Posted July 13, 2009 hi laura, i did not have a pain pump. i was very concerned about this however i was fine with the "cocktail" he gave me. i had percoset (only for 7 days with no refills.) he also gave me hydrocodone and valium. the key for me was the promethazine for nausea because normally pain meds make me very nauseous. i didnt throw up once this time. i didnt take every med at once. my sister in law managed the meds (she's an RN) to keep me steady out of pain. so she alternated based on time of day etc. i had less pain and nausea with this surgery then the lapband. (relatively speaking) i was a mess with lapband throwing up, etc. i was only on pain meds for 5 days..then went onto tylenol because i was so depressed. i thought the pain meds caused some of it. anyway hope this helps. joanne
Sue Magoo 71 Posted July 13, 2009 Hi Laura: I had oxycodone for pain. I had four different meds for nausea - one of them was a suppository in case the vomiting started I could take it via suppository. They put the scopolamine (sp?) patch behind my ear before surgery. The IC Promethazine for nausea worked for me. I never had to use a suppository. She also prescribed ic ondansetron odt. I tried that once and it was horrible. That one had to stay under your tongue while it disolved - actually made me gag because it was so horrible tasting. The IC Promethazine was my miracle drug when I was home. I had to take it half hour before pain medication because I get nausea from the oxycodone. Unfortunately, no matter what they did for me the first 24 hours I still had nausea and dry heaves. I think it was from the anesthesia. Thank goodness for the pain pumps (both for pain medicine and the one for the anesthetic that dripped inside over the stitches). I think one of the most important things to do is to baby yourself and rest rest rest! I know this is hard for us bandsters because we're loving all of the energy we got after losing the weight, but it is so important to rest while you are healing from the plastic surgery. Take care. GREATFUL 24 Posted July 13, 2009 PS is going to put a patch behind my ear for nausea. It worked well when I had my band. Hope is does this time also. We shall see. To be honest I am so looking forward to the down time. It has been non stop for the past few months. Work has been crazy and then my Dad getting sick. I am so very lucky to have my wonderful DH who is going to baby me for 4 days. I will be on my own after that but plan to be a lady of leisure. A few books I want to read, a stack of movies I want to watch and a knitting projects that I want to finish. Have my leave approve with work, not expected to come back until Aug 10th - 3 weeks off.
