Why is so hard to put yourself first?!?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I need some positive talk here. Why is so hard to put myself first. My health, my well being , is all being challenged by those around me. Sometimes I don't feel strong enough to put myself and my health first. Sometimes it's my own mind that won't let me be first. Help!!!!

For me, I finally realized that in order for me to be around long enough to continue to put others' needs before mine, this one time, I HAD to put me first. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself and for the benefit of my family. They are so much happier now, because they see me looking and feeling so much better already. Realize that you are worth it!

I hear you loud and clear. Not putting myself first created the medical issues that resulted in my banding. Had I placed myself first at the very start, I would not be in the predicment I find myself currently.

But lessoned learned and moving forward. I put myself first and although it is a daily challenge of change, I so believe it is worth my effort, not only for me but for those around me.

Could luck to all who put themselves first!

What everyone is saying is true. You have to realize you are so worth it! Surrounding yourself with those who are supportive of your new life change, that will help loads!

You're doing great! Keep it up!!

I never felt worthy of putting myself first because I thought I looked horrible and everyone would say yeah, sure, there goes that fat woman. I put everyone first at my expense. It is a hard habit to break. After loosing 118 pounds, I started to feel "normal" but now I am putting the weight back on and feel like the same failure as before. Again, this is an ingrained feeling of self wothlessness which is hard to change. Try to be strong.Be well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
