Weight Loss Stalled

Recommended Posts

All, I am approximately two weeks post op, still on the full-liquid diet phase. I'm eating a lot of strained cream Soups, very good reasonably filling, however as you can imagine I'm not getting all the Protein I should be. My weight loss has been steady and quite frankly encouraging during this difficult period both pre and post op on a liquid diet. However since beginning the full liquid phase, my weight loss has stalled; I haven't gained really, just keep fluctuating around the same mark. I'm only taking in about 1200-1300 calories a day and feel like I should be loosing weight. My question is, would a lack of sufficient protein cause my body to "hold on" to the weight?

I know I'm very early in this process and I am working on the patience factor, but more interested in the affect of protein.

For me personally I stalled a bit a few weeks post-op. I was very good about making sure I got my Protein and I still stalled. I think personally that this is just a time that your body holds on to everything because it thinks you are starving it. Everyone is different, but I do believe this is a normal thing. I know I went through it.

Have a great weekend!

I'm so glad you posted this! I'm nearly 3 weeks post-op and am experiencing the same thing. I am following the diet closely, so I'm confused by the stall in my weight loss. In the past two weeks, I've lost about two pounds, prior to that (including pre-op liquid diet), I lost 20 pounds in a month. The slow-down is confusing, and I hope it's temporary.

The only thing I could be doing better is my Water. I've only been getting in about 40 oz. a day, but I still think that's pretty good. Other than that, I'm joining the gym and hope that boosts the metabolism.

Best of luck, and keep me posted! It's nice to hear that someone else is experiencing the "stalls"!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
