It's called "cutting the apron strings" and it is a very important step in parenting. You don't do it for yourself, you do it for them.

Our goal as parents should be to raise healthy, happy, productive members of society.

When children depend on their parents for too long, they do not learn how to adequately take care of themselves. They can't make good adult decisions on their own. They do not make good spouses. And they often behave like spoiled children even though they are adults. They are often the people you meet who believe that the world owe's them something.

Well, I don't have any kids other than a 17 year old stepson. He graduates next year. If he still expected to live with us beyond that, he would have to be in college and working and paying his own insurance, car payment, etc. If he wasn't in school, we would expect him to be out on his own. There is no other excuse for a grown child to still be living at home other than pursing their education. It is just pure laziness the way kids do these day, and especially the way parents let them do.

I agee. And all my adult children work full time, pay a fair room and board, contribute to the household chores and help each other out. They pay for their own cars and ins. and phone bills, etc., Or they are in college. We tell them that they are welcome to live here as long as they like if we see that they are bettering themselves educationally or repaying their student loans and saving money for their future or contributing to the family and working.

Yeah I keep telling my 8 year old it is about time for her to go out and get a job to support herself. =)

For real though, I definitely agree on staying home with your children when they are younger. Unfortunately since the pill failed and I ended up with some wonderful children(that part is fortunate) at a much younger age than I intended both my husband and I worked. Luckily most of my jobs until my current position were in the child care field and I could have my children with me.

I heard new news this morning. Octomom was at Disneyland Friday, Knott's berry Farm Saturday signing autographs. Spent $1K at MAC. Must be nice. I'm sure the volunteer Angels of Mercy are happy to be getting money from outside sources leaving Octopussy's student loans to by gallons of lipstick for her mug!!

Oh BG you have it backwards that is where your problem is....you must not have read the "The NEW Child Support version 2.0" memo correctly.

You have 1 (ONE) 8 year old child.

In order for the "New Child Support version 2.0" to work correctly, and allow the children to support you. You need 8 (EIGHT) one year old children......

So sorry you misunderstood this.

Guess you will be like most of the rest of us, and have to be responsible parent....that sucks.....but you WILL be in good company!!!

Apparently in this country you have to be a blithering idiot, a complete narcissist, or wholly irresponsible and then people come to your rescue via bailouts and other help, thereby assuring that people don't learn a damn thing,

Yup. Guess it just don't pay to be a Smarty Pants. Better to be a dumbass and let everbody else do the work. The beeotch is laughing all the way to the bank.

I cringe everytime I see that pasted-on innocent, coy, I-don't-understand look on her puss when Phil or someone is talking to her. She's crazy like a fox, that girl. But crazy for sure.

Damn. What if I throw an almost 6 year old in there? Can I get a little free money? Oh wait, I forgot. When I lost my job 3 years ago, DH made $500 too much for us to qualify for WIC. So even though we almost lost our home and our car we could not even get any food assistance. The WIC went to the lady with 5 kids who got to buy the good Peanut Butter at 11pm at night, screaming kids hanging out of the cart that also contained beer and cigarettes she was paying cash for. And her nails all Octomom styled. Nah, I am not still bitter about it. =)

For real though, I don't know how people manage with more than a couple kids. Both of my kids had a friend over yesterday and both of the extra kids ended up having dinner with us. Not that I mind, but really I don't think I could handle that chaos every night. Luckily it was over 50 degrees so we could eat outside. And not trash my house.

I honestly do not think she is crazy. I think this whole entire thing was premeditated to get her out of the poorhouse and set her up for life. Now that it is not working out how she planned because only 1 in 57,452* feels sympathy toward her, she is playing stupid.

So who's the "one"? Oh......

Everyone forgets that she didn't plan to have 8 babies, she planned to have 1 more (7, not 14). And even though I don't feel that planning to have 7 children is a big deal, I understand why most do, since they seem to find it difficult to have just 2 or 3 kids. I believe the anger comes in when she didn't have a means of support except the help of her mom and the food stamps. BUT, she was planning to finish school and after another year of her mom's help, she would have been fine with 7(so she thought) kids to support. I saw her on Dr. Phil yesterday, and she was sincerely sorry for everyones anger at her. She doesn't want anyone to be mad at her. If she could do it without the support of Angels, she would. There were people in the audience who wished her well. Honestly, sometimes I feel you people just like to harp on about her for the sake of harping. Someone here said they would have taken foodstamps and WIC if they were eligible for it, so it's not they you wouldn't accept help from the gov., but that you couldn't get the help that you are upset about. I believe she will be a loving mom to her kids and be fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
