2 days post-op and boy it hurts...

Recommended Posts

Hi Clifford,

I would guess that you are still swollen. I had to drink Clear liquids for the first few days and even now, a week on I am still on liquids. I don't have anything in my band at the moment though so the only restriction is the band itself and any swelling.

Cindie, it will get better. I crushed paracetamol tablets and put them in Water as I could only get children's liquid Tylenol here which wasn't strong enough. I did go back to my doc who gave me a stronger painkiller but which also makes me drowsy so I only take it at night and it helps me to sleep. I am 1 week in and I feel a lot better today. I had liquid Maalox for the gas which really helped. It took about 5 days for it to start coming out though! Walking also helped.

Hang on in there, you'll wake up one morning and feel like a different person!

It's funny how different Drs are! I'm 4 days out. My band is unfilled. I get my 1st fill in 6 wks. I'm tolerating liquids just fine - just very gassy which started yesterday. My belly is very swollen - just what a chubby girl wants! LOL Maybe you are swollen but you should definitely should be tolerating liquids and Protein Drinks. You don't want to get dehydrated and you need Protein to heal. I'd call the Dr again.

I was banded yesterday. I don't feel any restriction when I drink and I am allowed to eat slushy food (no lumps). I just ate a can of Scotch broth, liquidised right down, and still felt no restriction.

I am very sore, but only on bending or sitting up. Look 5 months pregnant too. I did lots of walking around the wards which definitely helped with the wind.

Funny thing was, I got to yesterday afternoon (after surgery at 11am) and felt full of energy and euphoric. I was all set to go home that night, but decided against it. Had a fairly decent night, but woke up weak as a kitten and kept falling asleep after my little Breakfast. Had to force myself into the shower at 12pm, as I felt so tired and weak - also depressed an weepy. Just seemed odd after being so up and energetic on day of surgery.

Makula - Your post made me crack up!

I have had horrible gas today. Sent hubby out for Gas X and a heating pad. It seemed to help break the gas up so I could get it out.

My doc gave me Tylenol with codeine. I'm going to take 2 when I go to bed. It helped me get comfy last night.

lol..I know. But sadly...it's true!

Hi everyone! I was banded 1/27 also and had an easier time than most of you seem to have had. I feel lucky after reading your posts. I'm sorry some of you are having so much pain. My surgeon prescribed liquid Vicadin which I used only once. I did get up and walk a lot the first couple of days. Don't congratulate me on being wonderful, though. I HAVE to get up a lot because I have urination problems and have to pee a lot. But i think it helped me. As for the diarrhea, I too have had it since I got home on the 28th. I called my surgeon's office on Friday and was told it is normal, but that it should be stopping soon. Today is the first day it hasn't been "constant" but I am still having episodes of diarrhea even after taking some small diarrhea pills. Makula I can't trust any farts either! LOL. Best of luck to you all and hang in there!

Linda

Is anyone starting to get a wee bit cranky bc of this damn liquid diet?:tongue2:

I don't have any restriction yet...nothing in my band. I know that I could probably eat anything and it would go down just fine. I can drink my Water and Protein shakes at a good clip...and accidently ate a tator tot yesterday.

OKAY...it wasnt an accident, but how else was I supposed to test if it was done? (I was cooking dinner for my boyfriend).

So, now that Im on to the scam that I can eat anything just fine, I wish they would let me move to full liquids! I just want some cream of chicken Soup or Tomato soup! But I will wait. Bc I know that they want me to get a good weight loss going on and take things slow. BUT...I find myself hardly eating anything bc I am sick of Jello, broth, and Protein Shakes.

So carry on my brave 27thers!

:cheated:

Makula, you and I sound like distant twins lol. I had my surgery 1/19 and was on full liquids the full 1st week. I was so scared something was going to go wrong, get stretched, you name it. But I was literally starving to death! The little Protein shake and Water I would get down was killling me. I was seriously eating less than 300 cals a day (if that). I called my Dr. and told em, "I'm hungry man" and want to try some soft foods. The Dr. told me to take it slow, but whatever I could get down (because of the malnutrition) was fine. I tried cottage cheese, no can do. I tried mashed potatoes (was ok), then accidently ate a tator tot too (I have 2 boys and a husband, didn't even realize it) no problem. I looked through the cabinet and saw a can of corned beef hash.. I thought, I'll try that. VOILA, it worked. I ate maybe 1/8 of a cup with no problem and was ecstatic. I then tried it the next day with a very soft cooked egg, NO PROBLEM and my energy skyrocketed. Since then I have literally tried just about everything. I've been eating chicken and turkey for just under a week with no problem. Tried a bite of pizza last night (kids sleepover) no problem. Tried a bite of chicken wing today (no skin) no problem either. I am SO happy that I'm physically able to eat, that the desire to eat is not as strong. I was SO craving pizza, that I bought a whole pizza and ate 4 pieces (chewed and spit it out..gross I know but I had to chew and taste, the swallowing didn't matter).

Once I figured out that I can have all the things I love, I'm so much happier. I've stuck to my diet perfectly, adding Protein from meat & eggs finally.

Just wanted to spread my happiness that I'm able (not that I will) to eat the foods I love. My journey is starting out wonderfully and I hope all the best for my fellow January Hotties!:w00t:

Hi raink,

It will get better, I am one week in now and have a minor discomfort as opposed to any pain. My doctor only prescribed me children's Tylenol which didn't help that much so I phoned up and they said I could take crushed up Paracetamol tablets which really helped.

Can you call you doctor and ask him if you can take anything? You really shouldn't be in pain like this with no painkillers. Give him a call and see what he says.

I was very hungry 4 days post op and called the Dr's office. They ok'd me to start the cream Soups and I was fine after that and 1/4 cup filled me up for awhile. As far as being able to eat anything, you may be able to, but follow your Dr's directions and do not do it. The reason for the strict diet now is not to lose weight, it is for healing. If you eat solid food now before you are totally healed, you could cause damage and even lose your band somewhere down the line. So, leave the tator tots and pizza for after you have healed. These 6 weeks will go by faster than you think!! Eat often from your prescribed list of foods, eat until you are satisfied and don't worry about weight loss until after you are healed!! Good luck and congratulations to all the January Banders!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
