How long do protein drinks fill you up?

Recommended Posts

what type of Protein Drink are you having? My surgeon has me drinking the Bariatic Advantage Meal Replacement shakes. he said they are meant to keep me full longer. I am able to mix them with 1% milk and they have been doing the trick.

For me, about 10 minutes.

To me, they're a good post workout supplement for recovery but not a meal. They go right through my band. I need to eat proper food.

I have increased my work out and find that one NewWhey Protein bullet or Isopure hits the spot for me. But I just had a fill yesterday and have great restriction, so I am full for 4-hours after a protein drink. Before fill, I was good for about 2-hours only.

I usually drink a Protein shake for Breakfast but it seems as though it only fills me up for a couple of hours. Just wondering how long others feel about Protein drinks and how long you stay full.

Thanks.

When were you banded? shakes are a liquid and will pass right through the band. They probably won't keep you full very long at all. I think two hours is the most you could hope for.

If you aren't too tight in the morning and past the liquid phase, it would be better to try to find some kind of food to eat. So many Protein Drinks have a lot of calories and don't satisfy long enough to bother with.

I agree with Jacqui, they will just satisfy my current hunger. Even if it is full of fruit and pp. Nothing to hold that in the band. They're great post-op due to the stomach swelling and what not, liquid and goes right through. I love them after a good full circuit workout or yoga. I like them in the morning prio to leaving for work at 5:30 am then eat my bfast at work about 8. I fix mine with 1% milk as well. :)

I have been banded since Nov. 11, 2008. I drink them in the morning because it is convienent. I could probably eat something else because the Protein shakes only work for about 2 hours. I have tried many different kinds.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
