Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am having this procedure done tomorrow my surgery is 2/23. Does this hurt? Will I feel pain afterwards and have a hard time with the procedure - will I be able to go back to work afterwards?

Pretty quick procedure. I think it takes longer to check in thatn the procedure itseslf. They told me to bring a driver, due to grogginess. I think I would have been ok to drive after lunch maybe, i had it done 8 am, out by 1130. I had no after problems at all.no throat soreness or anything. piece a cake man.

There's nothing to it, honestly. I've had several of them. You're knocked out and wake up feeling fine but sleepy, plan on napping all afternoon. Good luck!

I have never had this procedure done, but my mom had it done a couple of weeks ago. My dad actually had to be there for her because she was really in a fog from the meds they gave her to place her in a twilight sleep. She said she felt no pain and the drugs were good. My mom is 64.

You will be sedated for the procedure. You will need a driver with you or they won't do it. You will likely be told you shouldn't drive all day due to potential residual sedative effects. I wouldn't plan on working. It doesn't hurt.

Thank you all that was so helpfull!! Definately put my nerves at bay.

you will be fine!

i had one before surgery & 2 since (had one tuesday of this wk)....like others have said, you won't feel a thing - be a bit off w/the anesthesia ... but should be completely fine later in the day. no sore throat either, which is always my fear.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
