Pre band I occasionally enjoyed a massage at our local spa. I had read some where to avoid these after banding but was not sure for how long. Any input appreciated:smile:

I'm a Massage Therapist who is being banded later this month, so I'm obviously biased, but: massage other than on the stomach can be done right away. I've even read people suggesting a hand held massager on the back helped reduce gas pain after surgery.

After the incisions have healed and inflammation gone, it will be fine for massage. You need to let your therapist know about the surgery, you may want them to avoid the port area if still sensitive there. As far as the incision sites go, massage can help the muscles heal better, breaks up adhesions.

Also, many forms of massage, light massage or energy work can be relaxing and help reduce pain and anxiety from surgery.

My surgery was 11/08 so incisions are healed and the massage doesnt include port area. I just had been told no deep tissue massage after abnding but it didnt say how long. Thanks for the info. Goin for a full body for relaxation!

I have never heard that we should avoid a massage. I will not give that up.

Looks like we were banded at the same time. My loss has stalled and I am so frustrated!! How are you doing?

As soon as I can lay on my tummy, I will be back to my normal massage regimen of once a month. They do wonders for stress and blood flow for me.

I'm not quite 3 months out and I had a massage last week,it was mostly an upper back & neck massage but I was fine.I've been seeing a chiropractor for neck adjustments but I told him what type of surgery I had and so far everything has been fine.

I am a huge massage fan. Right after surgery I went daily for a short neck/shoulders/foot massage.... was a great treat and helped me deal with the restless/head hunger feeling I confronted right afterward. I wasn't ready for a lie on my belly full body massage for about 3 weeks. No limitations now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
