I had my operation yesterday and I am at about an eight on a pain scale of one to ten. Can anybody say the same and if so how long does this last? Thanks

Oh Yes! I think I hit the top of the scale several times this week.

I'm reacted poorly to the surgery and took me some time to get out of recovery. The worst pain was 2 days ago when the gas started moving up my side. I thought it would burst. Just manage your pain meds, get some gas-x, and a heating pad for the gas. I'm still dealing with gas pain, but it's worlds better now that I got a heating pad.

Also, walking. Loosening it up as soon as you can.

I was banded on 12/11/08 and the first 5 days (day 3 being the worst) were pretty bad and I had a lot of soreness and difficulty drinking the shakes and fluids in general. Everybody's different, but if you're worried about the type or intensity of your pain, please call your surgeon. Though LBT is full of great info, your surgeon will always be the best source for you. Good luck and congrats on being banded, you'll love it!

I felt like crap too. If you are an 8 and taking your pain meds as prescribed, I would call. If you aren't taking the pain meds, take them. Don't try to wait it out. Get up and walk like you are supposed to, but when you are in bed, you want to be certain you are comfortable enough to rest.

Yep, the pain I had was difficult to manage with the pain meds given at the hospital. Because I did not do very well with the pain meds and because of another issue, I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. But by day 7-post-op I was feeling great! I was sore, but not in pain.

It does get better.

Good luck!

Definitely walk as much as you can -- for me it was the only thing that seemed to help. The gas pain is the worst, especially the pain in your shoulder. It gets better pretty quickly though. I felt like it got a LOT better with each passing day.

Hang in there!

Catherine

I took my pain meds round the clock every 4 hrs for the 1st 3 days.... on day 5 I felt great.... I still have just a bit of soreness and some gas, but feel back to normal otherwise!

Yes, I was banded a week ago and an 8 on the pain scale was there for me too. Sadly, I couldn't take my pain meds when I got home. They made me wretch and that was too much. I switched to liquid tylenol and that helped a bit. I was a bit delusional in thinking that this was going to be a picnic. It gets better, hang in there.:)

I was banded on 1/19 and by yesterday, I feel I was back to myself. Right after surgery, I thought a heating pad helped a lot with gas discomfort. My most uncomfortable thing was Constipation from the pain meds. I was feeling bloated and uncomfortable. Best of luck and hope you feel back to yourself soon.

Your post sounded like I was reading my own experience! I too was banded on the 19th, my pain was ridiculous the 1st 3 days (thank you percocet!) though I was lucky enough to avoid gas pain (THANK YOU lucky stars :)). The constipation and bloating really sucked. Today was the 1st real day I could feel like normal, not like a balloon, AND the FIRST time I noticed my weight loss (although minimal) in my clothes:thumbup:

IT GETS BETTER, hand in there!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
