New here-questions!!

Hi everyone--new to this thread. Had my lap band surgery on 11/12/08. To this point lost over 50 lbs in 2 months. Very happy with that. On my second visit last month, I asked for a fill because when I would eat I felt I could eat more than the 1 1/2 cups. I do not want to fall back into my "bad" eating habits. Since I had the fill I feel no different. When I drink my liquids all day I am comfortably full not hungry at all. I could eat much more. What do you mean by restriction? When I eat I never feel that I could not swallow another bite--is that restriction?? I have my third appointment next week, I am going to ask for another fill--I want to fill full when I eat/ any advice?? I do not even know the size of my band or amount of fill--I will ask that next week. Look forward to hearing from someone--very afaird of not feeling completely full!! thanks

I think that being comfortably satisfied on a sensible amount of food and staying satisfied for several hours while losing weight is the ultimate goal and the true meaning of sweet spot. I am told not to eat until I feel full (which is uncomfortable). Some people like to be tight others say that causes a potential for slippage or erosion.

Personally, I have had fills where I was in your position and satisfied but not full and other times where I wanted to jumpstart my weightloss and got a fill to be tighter. If you choose to be tighter expect some discomfort, you will make it more likely to get stuck and PB, you will feel uncomfortable if you eat more than just a little bit of food and when you are full it will be more of an uncomfortable feeling than a satisfying one. Having seen both worlds, I would prefer not to feel tight for too long. But really, restriction is a personal thing...how comfortable do you want to feel and how fast do you want to lose? It takes a few fills to get the feel of it and find what works for you.

Your weight loss is extraordinary and I am envying you!!!

However, maybe you should wait a bit for another fill??? Safe, sustaining weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. Seems you are way over that and perhaps should let your loss even out for the next few weeks and see what happens? Just something to think about.

Personally, on my second fill, I felt the most restriction, but it eased after 3 weeks, my third fill felt no different, and my fourth was too tight, resulting in two slight unfills. Everyone's insides are different. If you can eat enough food to stay healthy in body and your brain is satisfied too, and are still losing weight, maybe you are good for a little bit? Why get a fill when you really don't need it and are doing great? Many good wishes for successful weight loss and a healthy life!!!
