...no more tests? No medical clearance? From what i read on the forum and every where else whats supposed to happen next is an Upper Gi or some abdominal x ray that shows that everything is ok for me to go ahead and be banded. Sketchy????

Each person is different, each doctor is different. You can't take what you read here as necessarily applicable to you. It depends on your insurance requirements and your doc and his/her experience, plus your medical history.

Are you self-pay? I'm self-pay, and I had no medical tests before surgery - not even blood work. Seemed a little odd at the time, but I was told that I didn't need anything because my medical history didn't have any indications. But that didn't make sense, either, since I have diabetes and heart disease in my family. But it all worked out ok for me.

I would question why they think you don't need any tests.

I think no tests are necessary because you are 22 years old! A generally healthy 22 year old shouldn't need any real pre-op medical evaluation. The preop medical assessment is all about gauging and minimizing the risk of perioperative complications. If your history doesn't reveal any red flags, I can't see a reason they'd do anything.

All the doctors are different. I didn't require any testing other than my nutrition appts...

I would just call and ask their office.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
