Introducing Maxx

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My name is Maxx (I'm a woman). I am 45 years old and am in the process of being approved for the lap band surgery. I am really looking forward to losing weight and reclaiming my health and vitality. I am frightened however. I am afraid that I have ruined my metabolism and will not be able to lose any weight. It seems that I eat very little now to try to maintain and not gain (though that does not work). My BMI is 44 so I am morbidly obese. I have been on Optifast 2 times and have lost a lot of weight and feel that that is the reason I will not be able to lose. I know it seems silly but I am desperate. I do not suffer from depressions but majorly am anxious and stress out about my weight all of the time. I am looking for some encouragement and feedback from this community and support as I go through this process.

Smiles,

Maxx

You go Girl!!! You will be able to do it. My name is art, I just got the encouragement I needed yesterday when the Dr. at the VA Hospital said she would recommend me for the LB procedure if I can lose 5% of my 333 lbs. Heck yes I can, she scheduled me to meet with the dietician right away and I have a follow up appointment with the dietician on 2-4-09. I am on track. My fear is my love affair with food - - Will I have to fight it all the way to 140 lbs? Be encouraged. art, a friend of Jesus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
