Bent over and felt a pop

Recommended Posts

Last night, I was sitting on the couch and bent over at the waist to pick something up off the floor and felt a pop and then a pain in my abdomen. Specifically about 4 inches to the left of my belly button. This sensation was inside of me. I have already decided to call my doctor but may not get much success as Dallas has just had an ice storm. What could be in that location. I thought that maybe one of the sutures holding the bottom part of my stomach may have popped but I don't have a clue. I am 2 weeks post-op and have been doing great. Right now I don't have any pain, just a warm sensation there inside. :(

Any advice or opinion is appreciated.

No, your stomach is higher and to the left (just under your ribs). You probably felt your port shifting, is this near your largest incision (port incision)?

Some pain and weird sensations are normal during healing. If you start to get severe pain, swelling, seeping from sutures or fever then you should see your doctor.

one of my stitches did come out. I felt a pulling in my stomach for a couple of days, then in yoga it popped. I could see it poking out. My port is close to my skin now. I didnt have it fixed because it doesnt bother me any more. Just letting you know it does happen.

My port is on my right side so I don't think that was it. It is kind of near one of my incisions so I guess it could be that.

My biggest concern is that one of the stiches holding my lower stomach up to keep the band in place gave way and I may be at risk for the band slipping.

I guess I will just wait an hour or so longer for the nurse to get in the office and talk to them. We had an ice storm last night so everyone is late getting in.:cursing:

The worst part is I am a nurse so I can come up with a zillion scenarios.

It could be the tubing leading to the port too. How long ago were you banded?

I hope you are feeling much better. Cant say what the pop might of been. But, I too think if there is no significant pain, or oozing, redness to area, fever....probably an adjustment to your spine??

Hey, tell me where is your port located?? I have mine right under my sternum, to the right just a bit. I can feel it somewhat. It doesnt hurt, unless I try to reach over the dryer door and rest upon the area. So, I will not be reaching that way anymore. NO pop, so guess didnt mess anything up.

I really do hope you are doing better,a nd you get an answer to the "POP":tongue2:

Only 2 weeks ago.

Since the tubing and port are stitched to your abdominal muscle wall, you may have popped one of the stitches that are holding your tubing in place. If so, it shouldn't be a problem, they put several stitches in there. Or it may just be that things shifted in there...I really did have a lot of wierd sensations that early on.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you have increased pain but maybe mention it next time you see your doc. Don't do too much strenuous stuff this early out, give those sutures time to heal. Be mindful of how you move and how much you lift.

Thanks for all the support and advice!

I talked to my doctor late Wednesday and he said there is nothing really there on the left side (my port is on the right side of my abdomen) and since I can drink and have almost no pain it is probably no big deal. That was the advice I was looking for. I guess I was just looking for reassurance that a major thing had not occured!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
