I think you needn't worry! :( As ridiculous as the insurance companies may be, it seems to be a pretty common from what I've read here and elsewhere with not having documented weight and diet plans. It may just be a matter of starting the documentation now and go from there.

None of us can really help you with those questions unfortunately. As all insurances have different policies and procedures on getting qualified for the surgery. I was very fortunate and didn't have the supervised diet plan or weigh-ins. My PCP referred me, my surgeon documented my problems, had the pysch and nutrtion exams and then off for insurance approval. 5 days later insurance approved and then 1/16/09 I had surgery. This all started 10/24/08. So in less than 3 months I had everything done. My advice to you would be to call your insurance company and ask what their requirements for approval for the lapband. I did this with my insurance and they told me everything I needed to do. I hope this information helps!

You really need to contact the insurance company to find out the requirements for WLS. In your case, it all starts with the insurance company.

In my case, the PC started the process by alerting my insurance company to the fact that he is requesting referrals for a pysch eval, supervised diet, and/or lab work. Once my PC received the authorization for these referrals from my insurance company, we moved forward with the process.

Yes, I had to provide I was over weight for a period of years. I cannot remember how many, but I had it well documented.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
