What to expect with Restriction...

Recommended Posts

I have been reading this forum for months now.

I pretty much have my heart set on getting the band and

once I see my doc on the 4th the date will be set.

But im getting worried, so many people say that they get filled and have no restriction. How long does it take to get restriction? Has anyone every been fully filled and still no restriction? I just dont want to go through with this surgrey for nothing. I know its a tool and I have to do my part, im just hoping the tool works really well!

There are people on this board who have been fully filled and have not reached restriction. It does happen, but this is not the norm.

Restriction is fickle and is very different for each person. I have not reached my sweet spot yet, but I do have some restriction after a fill. It usually lasts for about two weeks. But that is just my situation.

You will not know if the tool will work for you based on other people's life experiences with the band. I appreciate your fear, as I felt the same way, but sometimes we have to take a leap of faith and give it a try. There are no guarantees in life.

I am 8 mo. post op, and just had my 5th fill. I finally feel I have reached my sweet spot. Yes, I felt restriction after my last fills, and that prevented me from eating in large portions, but I never stayed satisfied for very long causing me to snack between meals.

Everyone is different, most reach their sweet spot sooner but you should be prepared that weight loss with the lap band is a slow process and possibly for 8 mo you will need to use your own self control.

I am 13 months out. Banded Jan 08. I would do it again. no questions!! I have had 8 fills, 8.5 (i think) in a 10cc band. I have had a sweet spot on every fill as well. Some were tighter than others, so I had to use more caution in what I was putting in my mouth. I have had a steady wt loss. Of course it was more the earlier months, now about 2.5 lbs month, 10 pounds from goal. Did not get a fill this last month at drs. Because I am still tight in the morning. BMI is 26.1. I exercise daily, most times 2x day, lunch evening.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
