Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal

Recommended Posts

Since new people look or join LBT everyday. Just a reminder that open season was extended for federal government employees might be worth the switch to some looking to have WLS. BS/ BS health insurance basic plan is really good here in Maryland just needed bmi, psych and nut. (of course any evaluations the doctors require) Not sure if it works like that across the country. Just some FYI.

I also have BC/BS Federal, the basic plan. I agree it is fairly easy to get insurance approval

Although, I am getting charged a surgury co-pay with each fill, when I had expected to just pay for a specialist visit. Wouldn't be so bad, but I've had 5 fills and that cost adds up (but I think I finally hit my sweet spot).

The fills have been $70, I think because there is a percentage max... since the actual charge for the fill was only $150.

I have federal blue cross blue shield as well and my copays for fills are $15. As far as the surgery went it cost me only $38. The insurance approval took about 1 1/2 weeks to get approved but I BOTHERED them every day!

That's not bad compared to what others pay, just think some people are paying that off the top with insurance.

Do you have the standard option?

No, basic bc/bs, my wls is in February

I was actually wondering if Brockbabe82 had the standard plan, because $15 co-pays sounds pretty good.

It sure does, sound good I need to ask my doctor's office again how much for fills. I should after extra money now after wls. I won't be ordering appetizers and Entrees etc......To pay for that fill uh. :cursing:

I am BCBS Federal standard option. I paid 200.00 for my hospital copay. For my clinic visits I pay the 15.00 co-pay. Compared to what alot of people have to pay and my improved health I consider it a bargain!:cursing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
