No loss for a band too tight...why?

Recommended Posts

I haven't lost any weight in 3 months. I remember looking at the adjustment chart in my DR's office and one sign that your band is too tight is that you stop losing weight. Why is that?

I had a Band that was too tight & had a slight unfill a couple of months ago after not losing. According to the Dr. it is because with a too tight band you tend to eat things that you know can go through your band but are not neccessarily good for you such as mashed potatoes, ice cream or as he called it Slider foods. When you do that you tend to eat more. So if its too tight get an unfill like I did. I started losing more weight & I am happy now.

In addition to the slider reasoning - by eating less and less food your body adjusts to the day in and day out routine intake, and your metabolism slows to a crawl. If you're feeling sluggish, no energy to exercise, have diminished capacity while exercising, etc., you're simply not getting sufficient nutrition.

The band was not meant to be cinched down to the point that you can't eat...

Less calories does not necessarily mean more fat loss. Once you get to a certain point, the loss stops.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
