Got my surgery date for 3/13/09. Yes it is Friday the 13th. I think this will be one of the luckiest days of my life. I am scared and excited at the same time.

Hi, Sounds like you've been doing alot of reflecting. I can honestly say I feel the same way. I look back and wonder how I became this overweight person? Your right about it being an addiction. I know this because my husband had a gambling addiction years ago; (don't worry, he's in full recovery, god bless him) I remember what he and I went through. Same senerio, he had to gamble and I had to over eat, always wanting what we shouldn't have. Now we both can be on a road of recovery together, I hope. Best of Luck with your surgery and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

"TO THE NEW YOU"

Thanks so much, it means so much to hear from others! I tell you, no one understands what we go through with this decision except those of us in the midst of it. I really knew it was an addiction when a girlfriend, who was an alcoholic, said "I would watch you when we go out and you'd nurse one drink all night, it amazed me! to which I replied "yeah, and when we go to lunch you automatically order the healthiest thing on the menu and then don't even finish it!" The big difference, of course, is that you can live all of your life without alcohol, gambling or drugs, but we have to face the table each day. Here's too we brave folks that have made this choice!

Just went for my pre-surgical testing today. and will now be awaiting approval from HIP which I am told will just be a few days since my package is complete.

I already lost 13 lbs and I have just been on a low fat diet with Portion Control, no liquid diet required by my doc.

March 9 is my date, just keeping my fingers crossed that there is not problems with my insurance. I see quite a few of us have this date.

Stocking up on stuff for post op period of liquids...I just want to get this over with I am getting nervous again

Hi everyone. It seems I'm a little late to this thread!

I started all of this in August of last year. Well I called then. Had my seminar in September. First appointment in November. Had all of my pre-op testing in December/January and finally got my insurance stuff sent in about 2 weeks ago and was approved about three days later.

Anyway I was given my date on Thursday. I'm due to be banded on Monday March 23rd! Woooo. I've got a pre-op appt a few days before and then my nutritionist appointment for my 2 week pre-op diet stuff.

Glad to FINALLY be a part of one of these friggin threads!

Miss Cheryl - I feel the same way you do. I am questioning myself somedays and then snap out of it others. Today I'm feeling great about the decision and I think my sadness comes from being afraid of not having the comfort of food. But then I wake myself up and I realize I will still eat, I will still enjoy food - just less of it. And I KNOW from past weight loss attempts how your body adjusts in a good way to not wanting all the things I want right now. And its not going to be a situation where I never, ever eat again. Its a few months of 'resetting' my body through the liquid diet. I am seeing it as cleansing and doing something for this wonderful body of mine that is trying to be healthy despite what I am doing to sabotage it through overeating. Somehow when I think of it that way - and as a way of making this body of mine healthier - and paying it back for taking good care of me for almost 40 years now - it makes me feel empowered and no longer sad. I feel like this is going to allow me to live the way you're 'supposed' to live. On 1200-1500 calories. That's what we're designed to do and this band is something that I'm doing to care for myself and live longer and healthier. I deserve and my hardworking body of mine deserves this. *I promise I don't refer to my body in the 3rd person often! LOL* It is just what is helping me conquer my fears and sadness as you put it. I have to stop thinking about it as the 'last' time I'll ever enjoy food again and as an awesome step toward being who I want to be - for real this time! :o I hope that helps and you help me too by making me see also that my seemingly irrational thoughts of fear, sadness, depression isn't just me!

My surgery date is March 9th - I'm still scared - but I'm constantly reminding myself of all the great people here that I know will support me and already have.

Sorry for the long post!

Hi all,

My surgery date is March 20th. I have to do 3 weeks of the liquid diet. Ugg, it's hard. I have noticed that everones BMI seems to be lower than mine

It's worth it. Anyone else on the 20th? Also, how soon do you do preop before surgery?

I go for my pre-op appointment and nutrition class this Wednesday for my surgery on the 12th!

I have lost 5 pounds this week on the Liquid Protein diet. I think my husband is unknowingly sabotaging my efforts. We don't have any kids and he doesn't know how to cook or feed himself without fast food. He does not like anything that I am eating either. He's so picky!

Anyone else having this problem?

When you click on mine it takes you to the site where you can make the glitter graphic. In the middle of that page there are boxes labeled 'text', 'font', 'size', 'angle' etc. You just type whatever you want your stuff to be then it will populate the weblink. You don't have to enter your email for it to work, just skip that box! I never entered my email and it worked just fine. Try that...

Hi all! Finally getting caught up on this thread...

I'm getting banded March 18th! Anyone else share that date? I'd love to have a few people within a day or two so we can share updates, track our pain (ugh), progress, and so on.

I'm a few days away from the pre-op diet, and I'm not dreading the food as much as giving up the glass (or two) of wine before bed! I'm pretty excited, although the post-op thread just scared the heck out of me, so I'm going to hang out with you all the next couple of weeks

There's a part of me that can't believe I'm actually going through with this!

Good luck to melting in March (I combined the two great name suggestions)!

Hi all you March Lucky Losers.

I'm a March girl myself but from 2 years ago. I so want to tell you that you are in for a tremendous positive change in your life.

It took me 14 months from looking into the band to getting banded. There were many stressful kinks in the system but eventually it all came to pass and I got my band. All that stress has been reduced to faded memory.

There is all kinds of advice available to you here on LBT. Please use the resources and don't go too long worried or wondering about any questions you have. This a very supportive place to be. Your banded peers will share with you all kinds of good tips and suggestions.

I'm so excited for you all.

The one piece of unsolicited advice I'll give you though is don't compare yourself to your fellow Lucky Losers. Each person will lose at a different rate, will have different reactions to the fills and will have individual tolerances to the food. Some will work out like maniacs and some will have complications. Thinking you should be just like someone else or that someone should be just like you doesn't do anyone any good. It's hard not to compare but if you can, you'll be much happier.

So hunker down, get your Protein Powder stocked, and have a great and supportive journey together. This is the best thing you've ever done for yourself, I promise!

XO

Juli

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
