Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!

Recommended Posts

I too have a surgery date of 3/9 and started my liquids yesterday. I find my stomach is a little upset from all liquids. Has anyone else has that problem?

Now that's a drag, but I'm sure you can find them somewhere. Forgive yourself for today and move forward tomorrow. I'm going to bed now so that I'm not tempted!

What is everyone else doing? I would be interested to hear. I have to be on this diet for 2 weeks. Surgery scheduled for 3/9.

My pre-op diet consists of high Protein Shakes and/or Protein Bars as long as I don't go over 800 calories per day. I will be having the Protein Drinks from costco (160 cal & 30 protein) 3 times per day and then a lean cuisine or weight watchers type meal as long is it isn't more than 320 calories.

I had heard that my surgeon only wants us on a liquid diet, but when I emailed him asking about it, he responded saying it didn't have to be only liquids - I was thrilled! He said the diet I mentioned above would be fine as long as I don't go over the 800 calories.

I start it on 3/2.

Good luck to everyone else!

Hi, All~

Ok, it just took me about an hour to catch up on this thread. So, from what I can see, we are "Lucky Loosers". I like it-cute.

I think I counted 3 others who have my "lucky" date of March 5-a week from tomorrow. I'm in Minnesota.

Lots of chatter about liquid diets. I'll start mine with my surgeon tomorrow. I've been on one of these (Optifast) for about six months, so I think I know what to expect. I was sort-of goofy the first day, and a little faint, so I don't recommend driving on the first day. But from that point on, it was just fine. I don't know what Protein mix he'll put me on.

I bought Body Fortress (at Target here in the midwest). My dietician suggested it for taste over about 20 other options. It also has a high protein to carb ratio. I'll use that starting day 4 after surgery.

I have read that "gas" seems to be a common discomfort in the week after surgery, so bought LOTS of Gas Ex melt-aways today. Someone also suggested taking lip balm to the hospital-- dry lips I assume from mouth breathing.

Can't wait till we all turn the corner on March and start sharing results! Best to everyone!

I am scheduled for the 12th. I have already lost 5 pounds on the pre-op diet. It's getting me psyched and pumped up! I bought a fancy scale this week that measures weight, body fat, body hydration, BMI, and bone density. It's awesome. It remembers what I weighed the last time I stepped up (if I choose to save it). I'm hoping that because of this scale's multiple readings, I'll use it to see my overall health rather than focusing on the big number.

Oh wow, what is the name brand of that scale, I am curious? Might have to get one of those.

I bought it at Wal*Mart in the plumbing/lighting area. It's called healthOmeter. I think it cost about 45 dollars... which is not bad.

Well I did call the nutrionist and she said to have 4oz of Protein and 1 cup of vegetables at night for dinner. I tried that last night and felt much better. I actually wasn't getting enough calories! Go figure!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
