Too big for surgery...

Recommended Posts

To big for surgery I heard that along with the diet a CPAP for sleep apnea will help to lose weight, is this true?

I started using the sleep apnea machine about a year and a half ago. I can't say I've lost a noticeable amount of weight because of the machine. However it has made an incredible improvement in my energy and well being. I currently swim everyday, I walk, I'm getting more and more active as time goes by. I have lost weight and inches because I now have the energy to move. I am having my surgery on Feb. 9th. The medical staff tells me, the chances are strong, I won't need the machine , once I've lost the weight. The machine is hard for a lot of people to get used to using. For me, I feel it saved my life, now I have the energy to continue living a healthy lifestyle with the added tool, of the band, to drop the weight. Good Luck to you

I have had my CPAP machine for about 8 months now and I don't know how I slept without it. Well I guess I wasn't. Any way it is true, it is kinda hard to get used to, but it does make a huge difference! I don't have any headaches anymore and I feel better throughout the day. I did not lose any weight while using the machine, there were some months that I gained. All the while I maintained an increase in energy. I had my surgery on the 22nd and I am still using the CPAP machine, I think it will be hard to stop using it, to be honest.

Hello,

I work in sleep med., using cpap will help you lose wt, (not quickly) but getting the sleep you need helps with your motalism, remember sleep is important when trying to lose wt our body needs the rest to gain strength.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
