I had my procedure on Jan 23 2009..On the 25th a noticed a bruise right underneath my port..is this normal ? Also, can anyone tell me what " PBing" means and "sliming" mean ?

I am still on clear liqiids..till Tuesday..does this mean I can't have Protein Shakes till I'm on the Full Fliud phase( cream Soups and prorein shakes and yogurt ) ?

Feeling great other than a bit of hunger now and then.

Thanks

A few days after my surgery (Jan 16th) I too had developed a bruise right over and right under my largest incision. Both bruises are pretty much gone now.

I am pretty sure that PBing is "producitve burping". maybe someone else can better explain it. My dietitian explained frothing to me which is the same as sliming. its the accumulation of saliva in the mouth caused by the back up digestive juices and a dry mouth. My dietitian recommends warm to hot Water with lemon throughout the day to help emulsify the mucus.

Congrats on your surgery!

oh and yes, Clear Liquids means no Protein Shakes. At least it did for me. I only had to do clear liquids the day of my surgery.

I was banded on 1/16 and also have the bruising. It's just starting to go away now.

I was also only on clear liquids the day of the surgery. All the info that i got said 2 days, but the next morning i had a Protein shake on my tray.

I would ask your doctor. I can't imagine going much longer than a couple days on just clear liquids, your body needs nutrients to heal. But every Dr. seems to be different, and you definitely want to follow your doctors plan.

Good luck.

Pb does mean "productive burp" which is basically bringing up food that is stuck. The food comes back up usually accompanied by lots of saliva (slime). Not pleasant, but not as bad as actually throwing up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
