No weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hi! I was banded on Dec. 18th! I was so excited and expected a lot at the beginning. I lost some weight the first couple of weeks. But not as much as many others in my group at the doctor's office. Around my 4th week, I began to be able to eat as much as I wanted; and now, I can't even tell I've been banded.

My weight gain since the band has kind of discouraged me. I get my first adjustment today and am hoping that the weight loss starts again.

Did anyone else have a slow start?

Hi Hopeful,

The answer is yes I did have a slow start, but technically your band does not "work" yet. Although you were eating less in the beginning, the return of hunger and being able to eat more are a sign of healing. The band is affixed losely at first...then as you heal you get "fills" or adjustments to help with the weight loss.

I was frustrated the first 5-7 months as to why, why am I not lossing like other people. WEll the answer is some people do not need as many adjustments...sometimes a person can be fitted with the band and that's it. But many other like myself need a few fills to get to the right spot. Don't worry you'll do just fine....take a deep breath and remind yourself tat you need to heal and then get adjusted....

Best Wishes Lana

Thank you so much for your response. I had my first fill yesterday. I'd lost 2 more lbs since my 3 week visit. So, in 6 weeks, I managed 8 lbs. I am cool with that I guess. I know that I have a long journey ahead of me.

I absolutely love this site! To be able to talk to people about what you are going through is wonderful. It's an online support system.

I'm glad that things are working out for you! Thanks again.

Thank you as well this forum works the best when people co operate and show each other some human kindness!

I know the frustrating part of this is just when the loss is sooo slow... it took me 8 months to lose 18 pounds but I did it and I am keeping it off. Now that I have enough fill it should be smoother now. I wish you the very best and I recommend searching this site. There is a thread for every question ever asked about the band! Best wishes Lana

I feel exactly the same way, and just started a new thread about it prior to reading this....that's what I get for letting frustration get the better of me!

I am hungry every 2 hours and very discouraged. Please let me know how you feel a few days after your fill.

Hi livinghealthy72,

Sounds like you need a fill, I felt that way in the beginning...but now I can eat Breakfast and be satisfied most if not all day.

I read that people are losing MAJOR weight in a few weeks...I thought there was something wrong with my band. I had HIGH expectations as well, with very little results:( I have not lost 1 pound in 5 weeks. I have only had 1 fill, but after reading this I have decided to call tomorrow and make an appointment for another. I wasn't sure how often you are "allowed" to get fills.

Keep us updated!!

I'm sorry I'm just now seeing this message. A few days after my first fill, I felt HUNGRY! I didn't feel very much restriction at all. But since then, I have had a second fill. The restriction has held out a little longer. I could actually tell the difference. I didn't lost much weight after the 1st fill..matter of fact not even a half pound! But I am still hopeful!

I know how you felt. I had EXTREMELY HIGH expectations! Then, when I went to my first group meeting 3 weeks after surgery and others around me has lost 23, 24, 18 lbs. ,it just made me feel even worse. I was thinking....GEEZ! But everyone is different.

After 6 weeks, I was scheduled for 3 fills, all two weeks apart. Then, I can begin scheduling myself. I think I am going to schedule them for every 3-4 weeks. There was a lady that had done a GREAT job of losing that said she kept a monthly appt. Maybe it will work for me too!

What I am realizing is that you have to know your body, how and WHY and when you eat and what will help you. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE to eat. At the beginning for the first six weeks, it is truly a work of will power. That's hard for me. But when I am restricted, I tend to do better and make better food choices. Therefore, I don't want to ever leave myself open to be able to eat more than I should. I want to LIVE RESTRICTED! So, monthly fills it is!

I had my first fill three weeks ago and I have my second fill next Monday. I felt a little restriction after the first fill, but very little. I am really looking for my second fill. I really haven't lost any weight in a month and I'm feeling discouraged. Although I do know that before I had my first fill I wasn't always choosing the right food to eat. I felt hungry all the time and i ate all the time. Since the last fill I had cut down my portions alot and was really hoping to see a loss, but I haven't. :rose:

I made an appointment for my second fill on Feb 21. I remember my Doctor said it would be time when you can eat two or more cups of food at one meal. That's meeee!

I also watched the Biggest Loser and heard Bob tell the brown team that they were not eating enough calories. So I ate more calories throughout the day (was doing 1200) and all of the sudden a week later I am down another 4 lbs! I don't think I will ever understand the reasoning behind that...but it worked. I am still having a hard time with exercise. I know I need to kick it up a notch.

Good Luck=)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
