To fill or not to fill??

Recommended Posts

:scared2:

I have an appointment with my physician this week. When do you know when it is time to fill? There are days when I cannot eat anything without throwing up and days that I can eat an 8-ounce steak without trouble. One day it is tight and the other day its not?? I would hate to be overfilled..I have been there before and it is miserable...:(

I just asked my doctor that very question this past week. I have only had one fill, and I am scheduled for a 2nd fill in 2 weeks, but I told him I don't think I really need more yet. He suggested a couple of days before the fill prepare a 6 ounce piece of meat, he said chicken or a hamburger patty. If in 30 minutes I can eat more than 3/4 of it, then he thinks I should have a fill. He said he wants ladies to be able to eat about 4 ounces. I'm like you though, some days I feel like I can't get anything down and others no problem. I kind of like the idea of the test, and I think I am going to try it just before my scheduled fill. Good luck.

Steph:)

Umm I think I am having this very thing happening to me right now, this weekend I have not been able to eat at all...I mean I try but it comes back up but then like 30 minutes later of course I am hungry who wouldn't be right? So I am not sure I have not ever had the "full" feeling because I never get that far I guess you can say.

I understand how you are confused. I thought I had no restriction, because I could keep eating. (I was banded Dec 13) I met someone whose doctor said to skip the mushies stage and go right to solids to make the band work. I tried that with dry spare ribs and after the third bite, I got a huge pain in the center of my chest because nothing was moving. Now I think I get it. I realized I was eating mostly soft stuff like cottage cheese. I think I'm going to postpone my fill next week until I find out whether I am able to eat more meat. Anyone else in this boat?

Hi, I feel the same way and am very confused, as I live in Mass and have to have my fills in Texas, I was hoping I didn't need a fill this soon, i was banded in Oct 08 and had my first fill in Dec, and have never really felt full, or much restriction, not losing weight either, I can eat somethings some days and sometimes I can't eat that very same thing, I just don't know if I need one or not and to spend all that money to fly down to Texas and stay at a hotel, would be awful. how do I know?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
