Congratulations on your decision to start over. So many would just give up and say it doesn't work.

When you go to your doctor's office, ask what they suggest about food. You should be able to start off with 1/2 c food every 3-4 hours. When you get to where you are eating a cup of food and you are hungry before 4 hours, it is probably time for another fill. Don't forget about the liquids rule. No liquids for 30 min. prior to eating and at least 30 min after ( it is better to wait an hour). You don't want to push the food out of your pouch too soon. It defeats the purpose of having your band.

Your fill may take up to a week before you feel any restriction, so don't worry if you don't feel anything at first. If you feel too tight, please go get some taken out. You don't want to start back off feeling like crap.

Good Luck!

Hey Julie, I am also in Concord NC. I am starting over myself somewhat. I have lost but for the last 2 months nothing and my gym membership at the Y has gone to waste. I am glad to see you are not giving up. Today is a new day!!!! What Dr do you see? Dr Pirello (mine) just moved to Matthews but I am following him. Will be getting a fill in Feb. I am asking because they have a nutrition program that is awesome.

Hi Julie: Taking back control is a great start to the New Year. Getting your fill will help. If there is confusion or lock of information from your doctor regarding the amount of food, then try commecting with a nutritionist. Also connect to a local support group, which will help motivate you and help you work through the challenges. And lastly, perhaps seeing a therapist to address your fear of failing.

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
