For those who have been banded over a year ago, how often, if ever do you need fills after a year? I'm about 6 months out from my surgery and curious.

Come on! Anyone? I am curious, because my fills are free for one year, and I wanted to know what to expect afterwards.

Thanks!

Trish

I was banded in october 2003 I have had 4 fills, the last one being in March of 2005. I don't think I will be needing another for a looong time.

I've been banded twice, so I started over with fills. If everything goes well, you shouldn't need many after the first year. That being said, if you are still losing, you may need a tweak now and again, because as you lose, so does the 'give' in between the band and the stomach. It's all relative, but you'll do most of your fills within the first year.

I had a couple of fills around the first year. Then I didn't have another fill until this April after having my son and needing to still lose about 60 more pounds (part of it baby weight). This was at almost 3 years out. This fill is working like a charm, by the way!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
