Chili recipes or brands, anyone?

Recommended Posts

I've heard a few people mention that chili really goes down well and fills you up. Is there any particular recipe or brand name that anyone could recommend? With Beans or not? Do you add Water to make it a bit runnier? I only had my band inserted last week, but I'm already wanting something more substantial than SlimFast, Jello and yogurt! Any suggestions?? Thanks!

This is my receipe:

1 lb turkey chop meat or ground chicken

1 can kideny Beans (drained)

1 can pinto Beans (drained)

1 can black beans (drained)

1 jar taco sauce

2 jar chunky salsa

1 package of chili mix (any brand is good i found the texas style on has a good kick to it if you like it hot)

1 jar of Water (use the salsa jar)

in a 8 qt pot spray with pam and brown turkey chop meat or chicken

once browned add chili mix with Water, mix then add all other ingr.

mix well and let simmer for 1 hour.

this makes a lot but you can freeze it.

a half of cup = the following

Calories = 45

Fat = 1 gram

Carb = 6 grams

Protein = 9 grams

if anyone else wants any other kinds of receips (i'm always cooking) let me know.

Good luck

I just tried a new chili recipe. the cookbook called it taco Soup but it's really just chili. I loved it!

1 lb of browned ground beef

1 small onion, chopped finely

1 can undrained of red kidney Beans

1 can undrained of black Beans

1 can drained of corn

2 cans of crushed tomatoes

1 packet of taco seasoning mix (the dry mix)

1 packet of ranch dressing mix (the dry mix).

Throw it all in the crockpot and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours. It's great!

If you are newly banded, you may want to leave the corn out. Also, for the newly banded, put it in the blender or food processor to make it smoother. You can Water it down with Tomato juice also to make it more runny.

Good luck!

Hey, another thing I loved to eat while I was in that liquid/mush stage was this:

1 can of refried beans

1 can of red enchilada sauce

mix together in blender and heat in microwave. Top with a dab of sour cream.

It was great and really satisfied me. And the beans give you lots of protein!

The Hormel Turkey Chili without Beans is excellent, low fat, high Protein. I eat about 2 ounces and always add about a 1/2 ounce of low fat Sargento 4 cheese mexican mix and it makes an excellent lunch or dinner (before my second fill, it was about 4 oz. with 1 ounce of cheese). For me, it is easier than making chili (I am terrible at finding time to cook for myself) and I have not found any mice in it!

Hi Larry:

I don't blame you for being hungry and bored, if all you are eating is Slimfast, Jello, and yogurt! Slimfast is not a good Protein drink for bandsters, as it has a lot of sugar. Try Designer whey or Spirutein, avaliable at GNC, Rite Aid, and other stores, if you want good Protein Drink mixes. You can also have bean Soups and cream Soups, like Bean with Bacon, Lentil, Split Pea, Cream of chicken, etc. You can even blend chicken noodle Soup. If you want to eat chili, blend it until smooth and add V-8 or Tomato juice or salsa to thin it out. You can also thin out a can of refried Beans with tomato juice or V-8, heat, and add sour cream and/or cheese. I would recommend you buy the low fat variety of chili and refried Beans, all brands are good in my opinion. If you like to cook or someone is cooking for you, any homemade soups blended until smooth are fine. You can get as creative as you want in the liquid phase of the post-surgery diet. Just keep an eye on your Protein intake! Have fun...

I usually make my own using ground chicken or turkey, however, my RNY friend says that Burger King makes a very good chili. I will try it soon

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
