Hi, im new to the forums. I have a question about how much Water to consume. I am 20 days post op and my doc is not giving me a clear answer, or im not explaining it correctly. Since having the band im having a problem on how much water to consume before eating. When I drink it goes through the band and goes to my stomach. I get confused on where I feel full from. So when I drink water, I feel full in my stomach and then I get scared to eat because I feel full already. So my question is how much water did you guys drink before a meal?

I drink about 16 oz, 30 min before I eat. I don't drink anything until at least an hour after I eat.

i don't make a point of drinking "before" a meal. What I do is STOP drinking (per my surgeon's instructions, and they are all different) at least 15 minutes before my meal. I don't drink during my meal (and I have to eat in 30 minutes or less) and then don't drink for 15 minutes post op. There is no "requirement" on liquid you should have before a meal, but many surgeons have rules on when to QUIT drinking before a meal.

As to Water for the day, mine says 64 ounces of water. You want to stay well hydrated. Now that I am so many months out, I use iced tea for part of that requirement, but for the first 3 months I just made sure I drank that much water, and any other liquid was just "bonus".

I really don't track how much I drink before a meal. I am allowed to drink and my doctor encourages us to drink right before the meal. However, I cannot drink with the meal or after the meal.

As an example, I just finished working out. I drank over 1 pint of Water during this work out and I am still drinking water. I will be eating supper shortly. So, within the last hour, I have been drinking water continously and will stop in a few minutes to eat supper.

I quit drinking 30 minutes before my meals, don't drink during, and wait 30 minutes after eating. I too have to have at least 64 ounces a day. Propel, iced tea, Crystal Light all count towards that 64 ounces. Also, when I was asking about Hair loss, I told them I was getting all of my Protein in and taking Biotin, and still losing hair. They asked if I was getting ALL of my Water in. Oops. I am now. Cheers! Becky

My nutritionist doesn't really distinguish between the Water and liquids overall...as long as I get enough liquid (decaff.) then I'm ok.

I was told don't drink 1/2 hr. before, during and 1/2 hr. after eating. I do have a hard time not drinking with meals sometimes I would take a sip. But a no, no. 64 oz. a day includes all liquids you drink in meal. Protein for Hair loss I'm supposed to have 75grams daily not sure if I do it. I lost little hair.< /p>

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
